Sorry about not coming back there and saying hi, the crew and I had been there a while and I didn't have the strength in me to swim against the crowd again.

No train projects per se, but I finally got to removing all the tape residue from packing my display case so I'll pick up some wall anchors when I get my lumber.  After the case gets positioned, I can start picking spots for my various train pictures.  Then comes a couple lanterns and I'll have a real train room again.  The proposed layout will fit nicely along three different walls and I'll try to budget in a new flat screen TV and a comfy chair.

In the 3D world, I got the green light that my NE5 caboose drawing look to be A-OK, so a little touchup on those and maybe I'll have a caboose by the end of Jan.

Yup.  Posted pics a couple of weeks ago on the scratchbuilt thread.  Will definitely finish the six I need next year.

Those are really nice Bryan.

Any chance on having some extra parts? I'd love to do one of the later CR versions with the bay windows.

Most of the available train time over the past several weekends has been devoted to car cards, waybills, and the fascia boxes.


This weekend was also Santa Train weekend in central Illinois.  The NS version from here in Decatur:


And the IC version from Melvin, IL.  Nothing says fast like an E unit!


The KCS version is up this Wednesday in Roodhouse.

Spent the last two weekends running the layout at CV's Holiday Open Houses, so no real modeling work to speak of right now.

...oh wait, i *did* add additional pickup wipers to the insulated-side wheels on my O-scale P5a modified (as well as actual headlights). Runs like a champ now. Pics later on, if i'm so motivated.

Saturday i operated the Reading's Rutherford Yard on Jeff Warner's layout.  the yard job also has a run out to several industries - it has given me some inspiration to modify a few things on the L&HR v2.0 - a bit of a switching challenge amongst a simple yard setup.  i'm also going to modify the operations a bit to include a bit more classification at Warwick, nothing major, just have a bit more action there.  i should work well.

Sunday i watched a Harry Potter movie.  it was too rainy and ugly to deal with the layout.  hoping to have something for next weekend.

did Atlas ship the curved turnouts yet?

Actually, just makes me wish for the DeLuxe model to hit the shelves....

Thanks James.  I sent Loren Perry of GMM an email a few weeks ago suggesting a new detail kit for these models.  It would have been very easy for him to tweak some of his existing artwork to make it.  He responded very quickly and thanked me for the suggestion but said that freight car details were his poorest selling products and that he didn't have any new plans along these lines.

As it is, the parts I hacked have a few compromises, but they're good enough for now.  I think it's time to start an etching co-op for like-minded modelers to go in on small runs that aren't commercially viable.  Don't know if that idea could really work, but I've been thinking about it and would be curious if anyone's tried something like it.

I railfanned a bit this weekend, no modeling (nothing new there, I'd say I'm an armchair modeler but I don't have an armchair). I did buy my new wheels last week, so the final hurdle to the basement is behind me (except fighting with my condo corp to repair some leaks so I can sell this place).

Taken last weekend, next weekend will be the SP 4449, I'll try to get a better pic of that one too. The low fence runs along the entire route to separate the trail from the tracks and makes getting good shots difficult.
