Buy the car for $27 and weather yourself if the $150 is too rich for your blood.

Lot of detail in this car and you're getting a lot of car if you look at it that way. Price it by the modeled foot and compare it to a 40' car. Might make you feel better.

But at that price, I'd be reluctant to take it out of the box for fear of ruining the weather job or the detailed castings.

You are correct in that aspect.  This entire product line will probably not be of interest to you, especially considering that I cannot even bring to mind any current N scale rolling stock that lists for under $10.

Mind you, it's decades old tooling (read, ammortized) intentionally sold at a lower-cost (before Trainman, that model MSRP'd for 10.95).

If you'd like, you can always enter the market and try to bring sub $10 cars to the masses.  I'm know the good ol' boys here would be more than happy to help you get set up.

One other thing happened on that day:

December 7, 1941, the New York Central inaugurated a new, all-stainless-steel streamlined (Budd) train, powered by a streamlined J-3a Hudson (4-6-4) steam locomotive. I'm sure this car is not in the $6-10 range even without the weathering.  But that ridge of plastic posing as a grab shouts $10.00 to me.

Actually, its the thick square pipe stirrup that looks out of place.  Especially for a $150 car.  I can't see putting out that much for a single gondola not matter how well it is detailed and weathered, but to each his own.   Daryl

Is the weathering based on a proto photo and can we see it?

I only had builder's photos of PRR 439048.  The weathering is based upon photos of aged G26, G26A and G33 Pennsy CK gons from various sources.
