Well, I'm up for all the numbers in SP. Maybe even a half-dozen and ignore the dupes. I grew-up sort of in the middle of SP's lumber products traffic in that era, so these cars are what trains were all about, at least to me.

I just hope they get a better batch of wheelsets in this run. Not that I especially minded (FVM!), but I had to replace all the sets in the bunch of PC&F cars I bought from 'em in their initial splash before they were runnable.

I'll probably pick up a  couple of the GM&O cars, patch them for ICG, and then weather the snot our of them.

Yeah!!! Hopefully future releases will include C&O and N&W. L&N used them to haul Coke Breeze, but I think they had trough hatches though.

Geez, even in N scale that's bigger than most layouts.

I wouldn't be too worried about ExactRail. For one, I imagine their announcement of the PS4000 was made earlier than hoped for by them because of BLMA's unexpected announcement. It would be poor business not to and let their effort be undersold.

For another, I gotta support a company that's putting out 60s-70s production boxcars. Not enough of these exist in model and for anyone modeling northern California or the Pacific Northwest, these cars are a must have. I hope they keep 'sneaking in' more PC&F varieties.

Plus, it stands to reason that ExactRail will also release the PS4427 in N, since it has done so in HO. This is another 60s-70s era car sorely needed in N. Cheers to another new company adding to the N scale model pool!

OK, here's the executive summary from my Gunderson and FMC Railcar Production CD (Eric Neubauer).  There were 3 batches of virtually identical cars (external dimensions within an inch):

5200 cu ft (diagonal panel roof) -- 1210 cars built 1966/67 for SSW, SP, MNS

5230 cu ft (X-panel roof) -- 2500 cars built 1969/71 for SP, SSW

5234 cu ft (X-panel roof) -- 500 cars built 1970 for SP&S, BN

Man, what's with thses new manufactures and these poorly drawn car ends?  If the MNS is one of the prototypes, yikes.

Ends aside, I'll have to get one or two for the MNS as I doubt they'll do them if they're going to release foobies before actual prototype cars.

Odd that they didn't do MNS (cool scheme), unless the plan is to stick a proto scheme in the 2nd run (if any)

I'd have to assume then based on Frank's helpful information then that they are doing the diagonal panel version hence the talk of the roofs being incorrect for the SP&S/BN.

L&N, LV, and TLDX are the three roads/schemes that only had trough hatch cars.  The TLDX cars were leased to LV up to 74, at which time they and the 10 LV cars were disposed of.

Not so odd. Maybe they don't know about it. I emailed a couple articles with PS4427 schemes they didn't know about, lease car billboard schemes for the likes of popular brands like ADM. They're small and may not have enough eyes in their research 'department' to catch everything. Send them a note. I'm sure they'll appreciate it.
