I still haven't modernized the diaphragms on this one, but I guess it constitutes mostly scratchbuilt.  The interior is entirely scratchbuilt, as is most of the underframe.  The interior matches photos of the actual car (when it was still CR), including the fabric pattern on the couch in the lounge.  The depressed center section of the floor is a steel weight, which kept the center of gravity low and didn't take away precious space from fabricating the bar and private rooms on the lower deck.  I have to get this done and posted on the N_ScaleVarnish list, as I promised months ago.

This is a modernization of the Atlas Airslide model with scratchbuilt ends, framework and roof, with the hatches salvaged and sanded down from the original roof.  The body between the outside posts is all that remains from two combined original Airslide models.  The brake hardware is from an Atlas PS-2.

I've never scratch built any rolling stock, but I have kitbashed some back in the primitive days - will try to post a pic or two this weekend if time allows.

I haven't scratchbuilt any N scale rolling stock, just this often shown, HOn3 D&RGW steel sided, wood framed flatcar.



Bryan's work on those NP and GN cars makes me want to break out the styene and build something in N.  Though not my era, I've always liked the looks of these:   http://www.railcarphotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=42351    Might be a fun project at some point.

Richie's DC-2 has had me salivating for a couple of years. I have some of the bits intended to do DC-3 on the bench, but the "gotta do!" queue keeps getting longer and longer and it appears that the roundtuit is on perpetual backorder.

PRR/PC/CR G39a. This particular car is from a few years ago; i still have it for use as a master, for casting copies. The plastic ladders swiped from a hopper car have since been replaced with brass ladder stock and wire.




I've got a bunch of other stuff, including heavily bashed G41 and G52 (with ribbed panel sides) cars, but no photos right now.

I think you may have inadvertently cut and pasted the wrong parts of some captions...a couple don't match the pictures.

Anyway, the roofs and ends in both the cars you pasted are from Intermountain parts.
Most roofs and ends I use are OEM except the ends of the two unpainted cars which are my castings from reworked Atlas ACF boxcar ends.

So what will you be using for continuous rail?  Or will you always run the train as it's returning from the work site? ;D

I have precut sections of rail for each car which when used 'simulates' continuous rail.

I believe they may have used it here....or maybe the used H beam, I cant tell.
