That one is actually an ex-Reading car, built by Bethlehem Steel (I believe). There are still 3 or 4 of them running around in untouched (except for the ravages of time) RDG paint.

up1950s: are you 100% sure that the book is actually giving inside length and not outside length? Most of those lengths sound about right as an outside length of a 52'6" inside length car.

Yeah Richie, I think those aren't the inside lengths which is how these should be measured.


From the '67 ORER:

EJ&E 80000 to 80014  52' 6" inside length
CB&Q 83140 to 83299 52' 6" inside length

I can look up more but I'm sure some will be too new for 1967.

I will delete this post in 24 hours , after others had a chance to read what happened , as I have deleted other posts about this in an attempt to de-muck-up the thread . Sorry Jason , I am just as surprised by this text as you must be pissed at me for quoting it on your thread.

Hey, anything to get people to actually go look to help with voting is fine with me.   Maybe others will take a second look if they ran across similar captions.

Scrooge Mc Bussey aside, I'm still hopeful the voting will lean towards something.  My initial thoughts were that a 15 panel welded and riveted, with drop and fixed end, and with maybe some sort of interchangable floor insert would be a good candidate. 

So, two sides, two ends, a few different floor options...sounds like a good kit to me. Tack onto that some covers and movable bulkheads....

But we'll see what it ends up being on Sunday.

Yeah, plus I was wondering how much different a nailable steel floor would look from a plastic 'wood' floor.  I'm thinking the widths of the 'boards' may be wider on the nailable steel one (plus I'm sure some other patterns), I'll have to look.
