ESM question - anyone know what flavor of "BAR red" this is? *SOLVED*

Seeking some opinions ...

What BAR "red" is this?  I'm having trouble getting a definitive answer.  I'm leaning toward CP Action Red as the closest equivalent.  Thanks.

To my untrained eye(!) it looks like a slightly brighter/more vibrant version of the Bloody Nose red that SP and SSW/Cotton Belt used to run on thier deisels in the 70's. It just doiesn't seem right for the CP red, but maybe the difference is too subtle.

Don't go by my rendition - That's just RGB 255-0-0 for the purpose of the line drawing on the website and the reservation notices.

I'd think you'd need something with some sort of 'mineral' pigment in it.  I think CP red may be too red throughout.

The SP scarlette has orange undertones which may not look correct either.

Maybe something like Pacemaker Red?

fwiw, Chinese Red is what the CB&Q red is referred to. It may be a bit light "out of the bottle".

fwiw, Chinese Red is what the CB&Q red is referred to. It may be a bit light "out of the bottle".

I could definitely be the same.  I think it may be the red/grey (plus the light coat of grime) combo that makes it seem light to me.  If you just look at the red, it does look similar.

They definitely faded quickly Jason....much like the CR C40-8Ws!  They faded and then got that odd northern Maine grime that gave them an interesting color and weathering.

I didn't think Chinese Red was "warm" enough, But I'll take another look at it.  I can always tone it down if it is too bright.  I have to get paint samples finalized for XIH production, and there's no BAR historical society to confer with.

CP action red is more orange than red. SOO candyapple red is closer (but a bit darker) to that color IMO.

It's like a Bear Manpig. No, it's more of a Man Bearpig.

Yup, got that, but I believe they kept everything paint shop wise when BAR/Iron Road became MMA.

A big thanks to Ian for suggesting I contact MMA directly and supplying contact information.  The folks there and at DuPont were very helpful.  I had not realized that MMA is still BAR - the name was changed when ownership changed in 2003.  As such, many of the BAR archival records still exist.

BTW, the paint and print colors for both the R/W/B State of Maine scheme and the all-red scheme are Old Glory Red, White, and Old Glory Blue - the official colors of the United States flag.
