Interesting...
I get to see that layout over at Trainmaster Models (Budford, GA) about once a week.  IIRC, The winner did not have transportation for and/or a space that could fit the layout and sold it to the store.  I could be incorrect on this since my information is second or third hand at best on this.  Other members who are more 'in the know' should feel free to correct me on any information presented here.

I really like the layout as it really shows what can creativity be done with a single 4x8 plywood sheet. The steam era and eastern coal mining theme don't fit my goals and tastes but it runs impeccably all day, every day, unlike any layout I have ever built...

sadly, they didn't include a track diagram and/or Plywood Sheet diagram so we can better understand how the layout was constructed.

Very nice layout indeed.

per an email i received from Howard Goodwin, the winner sold it to the store because he was already an established modeler in another scale. i would love to see some other pictures, HINT HINT

Would
like to assist, but my lame Motorola Cametexphorganizer is really not good enough to take any detail photos I would think to share.  There are some folks who visit here who may be in a better position to provide quality photos and give details.  If you are a complete punishment junkie I will be there on Monday doing some computer updates, so I could send a couple of specific directed photos if you don't mind something less than stellar quality.

I observed the construction in progress but was unable to participate other than a 'sidewalk supervisor' with never implemented (and I understand why completely) suggestion or two...

my main interest is the overall track layout, and how the mine is reached.  i think it comes off the main at the upper left (in the picture) and comes around the ridge with the tunnel and then snakes into the mine.

my goal is not to reproduce the trackplan, to to glean something from it.  i MIGHT be in a position to build something like this that is a feature in the family room and not confined to the alcove...
