I am at a loss at how many popular, reasonable, and completely unavailable things N Scalers would like to buy and cannot. But there seems to be lots of capacity to create stuff most modelers could not use.

James K. Polk presidential boxcars?

I know, I know, they are part of a set. Collectors love them. Companies make money off these special collectors items. This money enables them to continue to stay in business in order to not make what many of us really want to buy. The circle of life continues.

But I ask you this:

I think pretty much everyone here has, at one time or another, gone through that same stage of angst.

And we've all gotten through it to the other side, a zen like state of "eh, at least my wallet's safe".

Look - No manufacturer is twisting anyone's arm to buy everything it produces.  It's open knowledge that the assorted fantasy car series Micro-Trains produces have a strong following and allow the company to offer the prototypical items that don't have the same demand.  And, by far, the fantasy stuff outsells the prototypical offerings.  It's pretty clear that the Presidential Series generally has no appeal to the overwhelming majority if not the entirety of RailWire members.  But if not for series such as that, you wouldn't be seeing Heavyweight RPOs released monthly and be on the brink of seeing additional quality newly-tooled injection-molded N scale heavyweights for the first time in forty years.  Nor would you see multiple new bodystyles released annually, which MTL has done the last two decades.

Think about that the next time you feel like venting, and be thankful that MTL has found a way to keep offering products you do care about.

Used to feel the same way about these cars until several manufactures started doing U.S. Navy series.  Beling an old navy vet, they were just temping and I had to get some.  Never thought I would be tempted by these type of cars but - OH Well!

I don't really care what they do. I have enough cars to fill up my layout and then some. I will get what I need / want, and ignore the rest. Someone is buying this stuff, and good for them.

Look, half of the ancient Presidents are unfamiliar to most people.

What's going to happen when then get to the modern Pres. of the last 40 years or so?  The ones some love and some hate.

Think sales will go up on those cars just for some creative graffiti?

I think the President series should be era appropriate.  I mean, James K Polk?  Shouldn't that be a 30' wood box with truss rods and wooden trucks?

They should at least let the rivet counters have that  much fun!
