So TLT is doing a second release of their NSC newsprint boxcar. Now we all remember the issues with the first release... ride height and the missing piece of the door rail (and the f'ed up paint on the CP Rail cars). The new run includes CN family cars in the yellow door scheme, but no mention of corrections to ride and the door rail. But that isn't the issue here. One thing that has changed is the price... MSRP on the first run was $170 for a 6 pack, now it is $205! That is pretty excessive for what you get... sigh.

If that price doesn't come down, they won't sell any to me. That is just too much.

Edit: Compare this to the upcoming BLMA 4000cuft covered hoppers. Look at what Craig is charging for what will likely be a fantastic model vs. TLT for one with at the least, 4x4 ride height.

BTW, one question - those cars have a shorter truck center to truck center distance than most other cars. I assume this is correct?

Also I assume these cars get 100T trucks, right?

Yup, USD! I think part of the high cost is the taxes we pay in Canada... most Americans would have long ago overthrown the gov't for the taxes we pay, but we take it here and then ask for more. Since the CDN $ is hovering at the $0.91 level, I can't believe that the exchange rate is responsible. Taxes here spiral ever higher, and they just pass it along. Again, looking at what BLMA is coming out with and it's MSRP, I find it hard to believe it'd be anything else but the taxes.

Unless TLT is gouging... which is hard to believe since the first run is still readily available (at least at the CVR in Streetsville... they've a whole bunch of'em). I guess I don't need the yellow door cars after all.

I thought it was posted that they will re-cut the tooling to correct the flaws and any one could get a replacement shell at no charge.

Yes; that is correct Chris... the posting on CVR's site says "new tooling".... no word about ride height...

I was getting the pricing in USD from the Wig-Wag site. The Hobbycraft site is ever higher! The $28.95 CDN seems better, but WW has his reserve price at $25.50, whereas the first run was $21.26 (from the WW website). I still think the price went up, but IIRC, the price was all over the place on the first run until just before they came out.

Chris, you're right. But the "tooling" costs for correcting the shell would seem to have been passed along with this run.

I like that they've done this Canadian car, but the price is not right.

While I haven't taken any pictures, I see these cars all the time down at a transloading facility on the former BCR in North Vancouver, and the door tracks, while I don't understand how they work, ARE accurately depicted on these cars.  There may well be variants with different door tracks, but all the ones I see here are just like the model.

Go take a picture, please.

The track should be far enough to the right to let the door open.  The upper track on the TLT car is one panel to the left of where it should be.

Well yeah. It's bad press to so flagrantly pass on the cost of their original gaff to the consumer. Sometimes you gotta eat a bad meal, when you made it, or go without. It's not like there was a sudden CDN tax hike or the exchange rate spiked. It's a shame, I really wanted some of those cars. Not at that price.
