I'll start off with a scene from downtown Morehead City in the early 1920's:

The big building on the right is the Atlantic Hotel.

Those old photos are pretty cool. That 2-8-0 is pretty awesome looking.

Saturday in Hagerstown.

This is the old lift bridge over the C&O Canal at Williamsport.  The book "The C&O Canal Companion" says that it was used one time between its construction in 1923 and the canal's final closure in 1924 due to massive spring floods.  It is currently getting some attention from the National Park Service.  The last train used it in the 1970's.  The coal fired power plant is still in operation, with its fuel arriving by truck.

in July, 1983 i saw a train on that bridge with 2 hoppers.  i was in Boy Scouts and we were doing the C&O Canal in 11 days.  we camped at the KOA in Williamsport not far from the Cushwa basin.

That's where we camped!  A little crowded, but pretty nice just the same.

Let's go back to Williamsport about 30 years or so.  Here's the helpers assigned there:

Before renumbering, but after Chessie stopped paying the track crew...  Is that along Bottom Road?  It's totally overgrown now.

And FINALLY (thanks to our highly skilled Ed K.) a photo from some railfanning in Brunswick, MD.  Not sure why it's so blurry - I must have run out of coffee at that precise moment.

G Guy,

I love those pavement level shots. It has that I've just been hit by a train look that is so painful to capture in real life.  :) I also like the crew member looking at you lying on the ground...wonder what he is thinking. Seriously, these are great shots and thanks for sharing them.

Best wishes, Dave

Thanks!
Yep, that was Danny working as a conductor, and I have another shot getting a wave from him. Always fun going railfanning with friends, especially when you can't get a parent to drive you!
