What I also find odd is that, assuming that the artwork was drawn from scratch, it would be additional work to add the space!

it's probably the same vendor and they used the same artwork and rescaled it.

Same Vendor? Microtrains does artwork in house... don't they?

Yeah, it was the new Microtrains car with the white door and screwed up logo. I was excited to see these in HO, but screwed up logo equals 'pass' in my book. If a company can't get something as simple as the FREAKIN LOGO right, they are not worthy of my model railroad dollars. Hell even ConCor can get it right. Russ

why would two completely independent companies make the exact same mistake? same vendor?  vendor using the MTL car as the basis for the printing?
I think it might have more to do with a production manager who was not very prototype orientated, who managed to approve artwork on what he thought was correct, maybe he was an n scaler, and maybe he owns the MTL model, and thought is was correct?

In any case, Blaine said that its easier to sell the incorrect version, and let modelers correct the issue with paint or a decal, then it is to scrap the whole lot of Conrail cars, and wait until the next run.  I plan to buy a few Conrail cars myself, and patch them for both NS & NYC (CSX).

Also, the information I got from Blaine, was my best recollection transcribed from the Modern Freight Car List (MFCL) on Yahoo.

Remarkably, the botched scheme is still on Exact's site today - are they even aware of this?

Yes, and they are releasing it as-is last I heard.

Then perhaps they should change their name to ApproximateRail  ;)
