are the majority of the MTL cars too high?  i need to grow my fleet and some MTL cars would actually fit the bill (ugh).  any other problems i should know about?  grossly out of scale monsters that should be burned?

Can you at least narrow it down and let us know your era?

Me.  And I didn't want to type a novel about every MTL model that is out there...

Everything that you can use is too high except the 40' drop bottom gon.  The 50' gons are too short in length.  The SP bay window caboose is mal-proportioned, but probably not a worry for you.  Other body styles are scrunched in height but mostly stuff that is out of your era.

How picky are you?

What about the 2 bay open hoppers and 100 tonners? Are they too high too? (haven't measured them in ages).

The hoppers, and tank cars too, are high, though admitably not as objectionable/noticeable as the boxcars.

is it a matter of filing the bolster, or are there other problems - i'm growing tired of the Atlas 40' door.

There are lots of topics on here, and atlas, on how to lower MT cars, weather MT cars, etc .. also if they are foobies or not .. then there is always the UMTRR that George Irwin maintains .. everything you ever wanted to know about MT cars but were afraid to ask ..

Well that's not really a true statement unless you're really going to count the two scale inches they might be off.

The 50' gondola is too short for most (almost all?) of the paint schemes the MT uses and the body style doesn't match one of the 50' paint schemes they did do, but there were certainly 50' gondolas.

One of these days the Exact Rail folks will probably get to that era - and then your wallet better watch out for flash burns!   ;D :D

You're right.

I only recall one mention of a ~50' eastern road car that was a close match to one of the MTL body styles... but more vividly remember checking all the paint schemes I have and finding out they should be 53' cars.  Doh.

It was sized to fit the 50' boxcar underframe.

The PC&F 6033 box car came out in mid-60s ('65 definitely). The Vert-A-Pac is close, 1970.
