Educating Shipsure

Joe has said a number of times he joined this forum to get educated about Eastern railroading.  From his vantage point I assume "eastern" means anything east of Grand Junction. Since he's been here he's gotten a heavy dose of Conrail (goodness knows, we all have); and of course Western Maryland, plus complaints about product quality.  It occurs to me his education is still lacking because he and the folks in Oregon have apparently forgotten how to SPELL.

Let's start with something simple like Roadnames.  Rules are: the roadname hasn't appeared on an MT product in "a while" or has never appeared on an MT product; and the road was/is east of the western slope.

I'll start with a few that come to mind -

                      INTERSTATE
                      MARYLAND & PENNSYLVANIA
                      PERE MARQUETTE
                      VIRGINIAN

Any others ???

Maryland Midland - Their hoppers would be a fun choice, even thought they only have a few 2 bay centerflows compared with their other styles.

I've got little to gripe about there.  MT's always been pretty good to the Western Maryland, even when they come up "close but no cigar"...

A couple of possibilities, although foobies, might be their gondola in the round herald, a new channel side 55 t hopper, (good for steam, transition and speedlettering) and some of the different pulpwood cars...  The tube steel floor (also called self cleaning) would be pretty cool to see...

I think we've already covered the CNJ/RDG style heavyweights (which could also stand in for WM).

And while I'm up at bat, if Atlas or Walthers doesn't do one, how about an upgrade/update to the ubiquitous NE steel caboose?  But if it's MT, you have to get the ride height right...

I vote for a new 50' and 56' fishbelly flats with more equal/standard stake pocket spacing and an end mounted stand-up brake wheel. Just keep away from the thinly tapered GSC profile on that fishbelly so we can have some variety in our flatcars. The current MT flats are nice, if you don't pay attention to the arrhythmic stake pocket spacing and the side-mounted brake wheel (which I've never seen on a flat car). I haven't the slightest care as to what roadnames it comes in, I can decal.

Checked the roads listed here and they were all produced before I joined MTL. 

Interstate was a huge dog...bow wow wow, didn't even break 50%.  So unless we can find something more interesting or there's been a huge resurgence in Interstate, I don't think I can sell it.


Maryland-Pennsylvania is in the same leaky boat, but again, show me something that will sell, and I can try and get it approved.


Pere-Marquette was marginal but I have the Marketing Assistant looking into what we can do.

Virginian is another oldie that did OK and it will be looked into.

Yea, we might have a tough time with spelling but we know when to let go of the CAP key  ;D

Well, you guys at MTL have done a lot of KCS recently - and I think you on behalf of my ever thinning wallet.

Something in a ICG/IC/CN patch scheme would always be welcome . . .

For that matter, maybe you can start doing patch jobs in your weathered cars series.

MTL has always been good to us PRR modelers but I have been waiting patiently for a scale test car in PRR how about it Joe  ;D ;D ;D

although I know that the scale test cars are not a great seller but come on you have to put one out in PRR please ::)

Woops sorry I missed the rules hows about Berwind coal or Jamison coal & coke 2 bay hoppers the PRR hauled many of these.

You could do the M&P "late model" railbox type 50' car from the late 70's early 80's during the boxcar leasing boom.  It had the familiar and fun big star logo, and they traveled all over the country... until the leases expired...  Then they had more boxcars than they had track to put them on... :D

I'd be in for one of them, even though it's after my era...  I'd get a bunch in fact, and lease them to Ed to run on his 1985 layout!

Actually, the late era Ma&Pa box was recently done (in the past 5 years) by Athearn. I have a pair.
