Wow, a Volvo VN780 tractor. Of course, now that I'm moving away from contemporary modeling they start with that stuff. Argh. Please Athearn, give us that Ford F850!

CN has some Volvo tractors running around Vancouver painted black/white/red like their locomotives - very sharp.  Maybe this will work for those.

I'm fairly certain it came about in 2002.

Wow, it will be interesting to see if this is new tooling for a true BNSF Dash 9.  Hopefully if so they'll do the H2.

I like the trucks too.  2002 is pushing the limits of my era but we'll see.

From the announcement to the dealers (posted by Greenlight on TB):
Features:
· New prototypically accurate detailing, including walkways, ditch light placement, and trucks
· Kato straight shank magnetic knuckle couplers
· Illuminated number boards

So it appears to be a proper update along the lines of the SP/UP release.  Obviously I'm very pleased to see this; now I hope they'll slap a GPS dome on and release it in H2 with about 10 numbers in the 4000 series.    But at least it won't require a bash now.

The Volvo sounds interesting.  How about a 53' reefer trailer to go with it?

This is way cool!  I have been wondering who would be the first to give us a truly modern North American semi-tractor.

Edit:  And the yard goat is also a great addition.  Some of the HO guys have been complaining about the price of the new Athearn model, which does make the Kato version look like a bargain.

I certainly hope the "prototypically accurate detailing" includes the cab windows....

I wish Kato would just bite the bullet and release a JB Hunt container for the BNSF Maxi-IVs.... I don't know how else we're going to get one and Kato's release policy has no sense anyway.

The adjustable length chassis is pretty cool...I'd like to know more about the new 40' container though.
