Any experience with Look Models?

I ran across a new to me manufacturer of N scale brass on eBay, Look Models. Their passenger cars look very nice in the small photos. Has anyone laid hands of one of these?

They are pretty good, their passenger cars are nicely finished and mine have been of good quality.

Well Bill, I had heard that whenever the Milwaukee Road was short of reefers, they shipped beer in coaches. This happened frequently in 1972.... : Anyhow, that is my story and I'm sticking to it.

This car does look kinda nice. You have to love anything with porthole windows. I'm not a MR passenger car expert (not even a novice), but these look like a really nice rendition of the 600 to 661 series of coaches in the MR Color Guide V1 (rather than the 502 on the model). I'm tempted to have a go at this car.

Nit picking alert    Sorry, this Milwaukee passenger car modeler couldn't resist.

It looks pretty good overall but something about the rectagular shaped windows in the main body of the car look off to me somehow. I can't put a finger on it, maybe it's just the photo. I'd like to see a direct on side view to be sure. They went to the trouble of doing the ribs on the car ends but looks like they missed the ones on the roof. Can't see the underbody enough to comment. The only more accurate Milwaukee coaches out there are brass models from Railway Classics (and they sell for $200 + if you can find them) and my scratchbuilt models  ;D

Otherwise, I could use about a dozen of these.

  Looks similar to the two I made from Con Cor coaches usuing Brass Car Sides sides ,of course I had to settle for the incorrect Con Cor Budd/Acf style trucks not the correct Nystrom trucks Milwaukee used. I also have a parlor car sides set that looks very similer that I never built.                                             Nate Goodman  (Nato).

Well, that model moved out of my price range pretty quickly.   The bidding looks like a advertisement for sniping or as a motivation to have Walthers do the real Hiawatha in N.  I'm not holding my breath for that one. Perhaps if they could just sell a couple of their HO scale versions!!! Oh well, the money I saved not buying a car that I really don't need can be put towards buying transfer cabooses that I do need (but can't yet buy).

I agree it probably moved out of almost everyone's price range (I wasn't bidding).

However, if it is sniping or some other motive, how do we account for kiwi_al saying "mine have been of good quality."

Maybe he can enlighten us:

Who is Look Models? 

How long have they been in business?

How did he obtain his models - sale or auction?

Anyone else have any dealings with them?

Sniping is the act of only bidding at the last few seconds before the close . To bid any other way only helps the seller . One shot , one kill .

I have two of their cars and am happy with both.  The only thing I didn't like were the trucks on the Amtrak transition sleeper I bought from them.  They were a verry brittle plastic that the wheels kept falling out of.  I replaced them with a set of Kato Superliners trucks. 

From what I understand, Look Models is a small Japanese company that manufactures these cars.  He is not a reseller of the cars.  I first started seeing his items on eBay about 2 years ago. 

The cars I have are a GE Test car and an Amtrak Transition Sleeper in the PHV paint scheme.

I was fortunate enough that they listed them with a buy now and I pounced. In the last 3 months anyway or just before kato's El Capitan run I attempted to get some more Santa Fe cars, I noticed that bids came in late and went passed the amount I had set aside pretty quickly. Since Kato are bringing out the El Capitan I have stopped bidding on them. I'll continue to  look for their modern BNSF one's unfortunately they don't appear to be offering too many buy nows. Just keep looking and don't bid past the amount you are comfortable with.
Hopefully that puts your mind a little bit to rest on how I acquired mine. I had been waiting a long time 6 months to a year for the last one (Santa Fe Progress Car).
