Body-mounted McHenry's on the new covered hopper too....... interesting!

Yeah that's pretty cool. I hope it's a standard pocket so I can easily switch to M-T's. I'm not a fan of the N McHenry's (they are too long).

The Airslides at the Portland show also had body-mounted couplers.  The pockets look very good.  Whether they could take MTL 1015s also was my second thought.

The bay windows also (which looked very good), but they don't concern me as much since they are road-specific and I'm not buying a Conrail version.  An undec maybe, for kit-bashing purposes.

Gary,

I think we will have a long wait.  Last year in Louisville I begged the Athearn rep to push to have these made in N scale.  The answer I got was that since they were made with the tooling they got from A-Line, I should not expect to see an N scale version any time soon! :(

But, Athearn has been known to throw in a few surprises, so you never know.

Daniel,

Athearn purchased the tooling for their first two HO 28-ft. pup trailers (along with a lot of other tooling) from Rail Power Products around 2002.  Athearn purchased the tooling for A-Line's HO trailers (including two 28-ft pup trailers similar to those acquired from Rail Power Products) in 2007; however, the purchase agreement allows A-Line to market the same trailers as kits.

So I am hoping that Athearn will eventually make N scale versions of the A-Line trailers, but I was told not to expect it any time soon.

But note that this model was a recent Athearn announcement, just not in N. So I plead partial hijack.

A quick check of the Horizon Dealer site shows almost all of the N trailers they have produced so far still in stock. The sales in our shop have not met the expected demand, but I'd be willing to guess part of that is the economy and a bigger part is the lack of a piggyback car. The 53' Flat w/trailers are out and that helps, but a decent 89' flat would help ALOT and we might see that before we see more trailers.

I have had some of the 2 pack trailers in my hand at the local train shop.  I have always put them back on the shelf. I have a hard time with the price.  Not that they aren't well done, it's just hard to spend my limited hobby budget on trailers.

I'm with ya' Pete. I always considered vehicls a scenery item more than a highly detailed piece of rolling stock....BUT, on a flat car that might just be a different story. I'm also afraid that these prices are here to stay.

They need to trow those 2 packs in with an early 89-footer, then I'll buy

They need to come down at least 3 dollars on their retail prices, then I'll buy.

Really
nice 89' flats would create additional 'need' and inspire many more trailer purchases.  Nudge, nudge, wink, wink..

Staying away from a Fruehauf 40'/45'/48' smooth-sided trailer would help too....

Even if MTL hasn't done every scheme possible - but we're working on that....
