3 different versions of the same car. Yes, n scale sure is maturing. Now if it can just mature its way into an AS616.

That would be 4 versions. ;)

Is it just me or is Athearn suddenly cranking out the product? In HO they had close to 20 cars announced this month. Much more than normal. N had 5 announcements. Earlier this year we were lucky to see 4-5 HO and 1 N announcement. The pricing seems pretty good for all these PE details also.  The prices on the boxcars have come down a couple bucks.

I don't remember them doing this last year for the show, although they had the announcement of the HO turbines to show off then.

Tony,

They usually have more stuff to announce May-Jul as it gets delivered at the peak seaon of Late Oct-Jan.....if they are on time.....the NTS also helps as they usually have some brande new tooling to announce in one scale or another. They now have 3 newly tooled cars to be delivered in N. Maybe there will be room for another one or a new loco for the NTS.

Yeah that's pretty cool. I hope it's a standard pocket so I can easily switch to M-T's. I'm not a fan of the N McHenry's (they are too long).

There might just be an announcement about different shank lengths......this year.....decade.......century.

I'm not sure if the shank length will help, the "knuckle" itself is kinda long.

I don't know guys they need to come down in price a tad, 3 for $45 gets pricey when you want 6 or 12.

According to the photos posted and the artwork, the Athearn ACF 2970 Centerflow covered hopper is the pre-1971 version.  The Micro-Trains, Atlas and Intermountain cars are all post 1971 versions.

J n J attempted to make a pre-1971 version of a 2 bay Centerflow by using an old Atlas 4 bay model that had been shortened as the master for their casting.  I never bothered to build mine because it required too much modification to match the Union Pacific cement cars I was trying to model.

I for one am thankful that Athearn chose to make a quality model of the earlier version.

Me too! The PS 2600 is excellent - Athearn has definately been raising the bar on their rolling stock.
