Not to be the Negative Nancy but does the prototype show that much distance between the upper decks? I have always thought that the upper decks were much closer and mated to hydraulics that allowed the decks to act as one peice with a ramp at the end. Is it possible to see the 1:1 version?

ha my first post and its about something i know about
all too well.... the prototype should be a delavan or
bankhead.  the upper decks on the headrack should be
closer. there would be flippers to span the gap. the lower deck should have a drop down area behind the cab. same with the part over the front of the cab. the bottom deck on the trailer is missing a front  deck to get to the lower tractor deck.

I asked for these, so I'll sure line up to buy some, but the top decks do look oddly unusable.  The biggest reason I wouldn't buy at least 6-10 is that the tractor is simply too old, and I don't know how easily I could mate it up to a modern tractor anyhow -- not to mention I've only got 1 of the newer Showcase Kenworths and it's been a while since I've come across some more.

I looked at this again these would be the areas I would improve:

- shorten the cab portion about 1' - 1.5'
- revise the "trailer hitch" connection, shorten by 3' - 4'
- overall shorten the trailer itself roughly 5'
- add the ramp suggested by Bigford

The bottom image resolution has been unchanged so the removed space is close to scale. I was only using paintbrush so the hitch area was only shortened about half as much as it could have been.

This looks like the model. I agree the upper decks should be a hair lower, but the overall model reflects the prototype rather well. This seems to be an older early 1990's prototype. Newer trucks seem to have a more cohesive design:
