ROTFLMAO. Good one.  But, you know, I like "broad" curves.  ;D  Ooh, I'm sure there's hell to pay for that one.

I would strip all the Digitrax components from the layout for future re-use on your layout.  Brian's got a Prodigy Advance (The Delmarva Gold Standard) so all he has to do is attach two wires.

What will be fun is the thought of Brian hanging out in that vast basement of his with a tidy little door layout in the middle of it...  Oh, the thoughts he'll be thinking! 

If Brian needs it, we have already discussed him borrowing my Digitrax components until he has time to hook up the MRC system.  That, like you said will actually be a piece of cake.  There's two wires under the layout that hook into the booster now.  Unhook them and attach to the MRC system, and he should be up and running.  The only problem I foresee in the short term is plugs for connecting the throttle on the fascia, since I have the Digitrax plugs.  But, he should be able to connect directly to the booster and be running in about two minutes.

I can see him now and the visions he'll be having in that huge, untouched space.  We might want to invest in hollow-core door stock now before the demand sends the profits skyrocketing!  ;D

And weathering while color blind?  As long as you can read the labels on the paint and don't confuse "Brown" for "Orange", you should be fine.  And only use black and white photos for reference...  Well, I suppose you already do that by default... :-\

Well, I'm not that colorblind.  They say I'm red-green colorblind, but it's really just certain shades of colors that give me trouble.  I have no problem distinguishing the true primary colors.  But, that doesn't make painting and weathering any easier for me.  Hence, the immaculate, unweathered, and uncustomized fleet.

The MRC rig has three throttle jacks right on the back of the unit.  For the size of the layout, that should be plenty.  He can get a 20' ethernet cable and run all over the layout from just about any angle.

An 8-pin ethernet jack is the standard connection.  I can help with installing it... You just have to sequence the cable colors to the jack.

I'd still pull your system off of it.  If you do manage to build a small switching rig, it will be useless without your control system!

I thought you were planning to replace the layout with an around-the-walls plan anyway - so you were going to be "without" an operating layout for some period of time.

You could consider joining a modular club or group - would at least give you a chance to run some stuff.

Dave: "I can't back out now I've commited to providing rides, bringing burgers and the Juice train, besides we can pay the neighborhood kid 20 bucks."

So now we should expect Dave at every Ops Session on the eastern seaboard.

Thanks, Marty.  What I had planned was to keep the door layout up and running as long as possible until trains could run on the around-the-walls plan.  It's true that I might have gone without an operable layout for a short period of time, but benchwork and tracklaying are two of my favorite aspects of model railroading.  So, I could have gotten something running in not too long a period of time.

However, that will not come to fruition now.  I guess procrastination pays off again, huh?  At least I didn't invest in materials and start construction before this decision was made.  That will also make repairs to the walls of the layout room a lot easier.

Therefore, I plan to take Tim Sizemore's suggestion and crash every ops session on the East Coast.  ;D  Look out, boys!

Thanks for posting this picture again.  It could be inspiration for something I could probably squeeze in somewhere in my girlfriend's place.  It looks like it's smaller than 24" x 48"!  Who knows, maybe I can take this opportunity to convert my girlfriend's 4 1/2-year-old son to a model railroader.

Now that I have read all your reasons for not having a layout in your new situation I can understand your thinking.

Forget my suggestion over on the Atlas board.

After all, when you come right down to it it's (usually) a lot better on a cold night to be next to a female than next to a train.

I really enjoyed the group discussions of prenuptial agreements. You boys come from a background of practical experience and have learned the ropes the hard way.

I'm just thankful that my lovely wife has stayed by me through countless days, nights, weekends, and holidays I spent on the railroad and away from home. She is a special lady.

Now if i could just get her to quit thinking about getting a motorcycle!
