umm, something is amiss with one of the above, if they are suppose to be the same prototype.

I was thinking the car looked narrow, but maybe it's the right width and the height is too tall?

Yes, it makes the trucks look too wide.

The MT looks WAAAY off from that Overland, which I'll bet a dollar is right on scale wise.  When I compare my Life Like NE cabooses to the brass ones I have, there are similar differences in ride height and level of detail, but at least the proportions are right!

That's not good. :( Might be time to cancel my second one - first still to arrive.

I saw Dave's post, and dug this shot out...

It's a different prototype, but the roof line here doesn't appear to be any where near the height of a boxcar...

I don't think there is too much wrong with the MT caboose:

So the body height is correct, the body length is correct, and the window dimensions are correct.  The ride height is way off, even in my lowered example.  The tool box is also the wrong dimensions - it is too tall and not wide enough.  Also, the roof appears to be a little thick.

So I think the roof combined with the toolbox make for an optical illusion, with the high ride height further exaggerating the dimensions.

This is good news, because these are fixable flaws.

Tom,

Your roofline yellow line is a couple inches too low on the MT caboose pic - note the "air" visible on the platforms.

Sure, this isn't an exact comparison.  Note that my photo is looking down at the model, where camera is looking slightly up at the prototype.  But there are no "big" differences with the body dimensions.

Tom, I think your MTL caboose photo needs to be enlarged a bit if you're making the assumption the length is correct.  This will then show the height of the side properly.  Then you can cut out the side in each photo and arrange them to clearly see the poor proportions.  Here it is cut from your photo:

Based upon the TrainCat drawings, it does appear outside of the extra body height that the MTL car is too tall from floor to roof.  This is extremely obvious by comparing the car ends to the drawings.  You also can see that the truck generator should be passing through the notch in the sidesill and not hovering well below it even on Tom's lowered version, which indicates the gap is greater than 3.2 scale inches.

It seems Overland designed the height above the rails properly for their brass model, which also includes MTL body-mounted non-integrated couplers.
