Does the LL E7 have the same horrendous nose as the LL E8?

If so I would think the PCM E7 (or whatever they call themselves now) would be a helluva lot better ...

I'm still thinking on the SOUTHERN E8, which is in a different scheme (60s) than Katos.

What's wrong with the lower headlamp?

It's just the size.  I've always wondered how it it measured compared to the upper one on the model.  In pictures, the lower light actually looks bigger than the upper, but I think it's the lenses that create that effect.  I assume that someone just used the same dimensions for both.  I would love it if someone could measure them. Maybe I'm wrong.

And FWIW, it's more than just the light that keeps me from buying, but that's the most glaring for me.

OK, I checked the BLI/PCM website for the first time in a while, and couldn't find delivery info on the M1a/b.  It's listed now as a Paragon product, but it doesn't show up on either the delivery schedule or on the list of cancelled projects.

Would BL have bothered with a web page for them if they were cancelled?  Probably still trying to meet pre-orders.

Maybe they'll bring back the meter.

BLI said that if the E7's, E8's and PA's sell well, they'll go ahead with the M1a. But we'll never know what "sell well" means for them, since sales figures are proprietary information. I guess if we see these diesels selling out, we might have some hope.

What is the status on the PA's.  I have a LL with Lee generously applied an decoder and it works fine but could always use another couple.

I would hedge a guess that somebody cut and pasted the HO decription into the N scale listing. I have a Key Allegeheny that can handle 12.5" and it has a solid mounted rear engine. (I didn't say it was pretty, just that it could do it.)

I just submitted that question to BLI.  My loosest curves are 15," so this would be a deal-breaker for me.

The other data in the M1 description seem correct (length of loco 6.5", length of tender 3.8," MTL 1015 couplers, etc), so I'm hoping that the 18" radius is merely recommended, as they say, and is not the physically possible minimum.

I realy like the fact that they did the later red striping, that's one of the units that would have been tempting for me.

Was there a time period when they had the red stripes but still had skirts?

But Dave, 15" is your maximum now.  By the time BLI delivers the M1a, you will have built a new larger layout, torn it down, built it again this time to completion, fully installed the new Satellite feed hydrogen fuel cell technology that allows for total hands free operation, completely sold off your old PRR steam in favor of the late 90's Conrail theme you adopt in 2027, then you'll tear down the layout again when you move to a retirement facility where they let you have a small shelf 36" long that you can put the one train you have left, but only up to 30", because you'll need the other 6" for the cup you'll keep your teeth in...  Then one night you'll have a dream that you have a beautiful M1a pulling a 50 car train of N scale hoppers on a 4 track main line.  It'll be a beautiful dream, but then you won't wake up, and they'll cart you over to the veterans cemetery, fire off a few guns, give your wife a flag, and play Taps.  Three days later a box from BLI will land on the porch of the house you lived in 30 years ago.

I wish the story had a happier ending, but that's what I'm reading in my coffee grounds right now...
