To be completely honest this is the last place on the web I thought I would see you...  

I have one question on the caboose, from the discussion it seems the car was designed to be modular
are there any specifics you can share about what this actually means? will there be other versions of this car?

Of course, this place could also be a very good research opportunity for MT ... especially for eastern roards

Eastern roads are not my strong suite which is why I look for places like this...even the well hidden ones )  I want to learn and do better which is why I even make the effort stick my head into hostile territory...heck I even look in on the Atlas Forums sometimes when I feel a bit too full of myself!

As for being modular, the roof being seperate allows me to do different roofs including those with roof walks and different roof applications.  By doing the end rails with photo etch I can make new ones without the expensive steel tooling.  I think I dropped the ball on the CR for sure as one order seemed to slop over into another...my mistake.  The Bays are all over the place and when time and finances are available I want to do some of the other versions as well.  We even have two different underframes.   The economy is a lot different from what it was three years ago when I first started this project.  Some of the assumptions made back then are difficult to follow through on at the moment.  Things will get better and I'll be able to schedule more injection molded parts and circle back around and do some of these more prototypical.

Does that mean your Conrail model will have the correct roof? Or at least something closer than the SP's Stanray roof? This is not meant to be hostile, but a consumer needing info to base his purchasing decision on.

We conrail modelers can be a bit rabid. I hope that you can add the diagonal pattern roof to a later release just so we can swap out the part when it come available. It does look like you removed the toolbox, which is good.

As a former Conrail modeler, I would have purchased one of these without too much hesitation.  As much as I griped about your effort on the WM camp car, I'm very much an "impressionist" when it comes to many details.

I for one appreciate your response to this thread, and understand your explanation of the choices you made to make "a" Conrail cabin, if not "The" Conrail cabin available.  I think you'll have a winner with this, and will be interested to see if you can work the modular tooling to provide the ubiquitous B&O bay window:

That can be done in the scheme above (my favorite) as well as Chessie, and several of the "Safety Cab" schemes.  


I believe there are a few running around in CSX paint to this day, too...

Seems so, I've done some looking around and some of the comments are pretty harsh and not surprisingly personal especially on the Z Side.  But when you consider where it's coming from you take it in stride.  The same names keep popping up no matter where you turn, they have something to say and want to be sure everyone hears it no matter how unproductive or mean spirited it is.  Lucky for me, much of what I get is constructive, even when calling me out on something, and it helps me do a better job.  We're all learning as we go.

As for the roof...nope, same one as the SP.  As I noted before, the economics right now, and our compressed schedule make it difficult to spend more money on tooling.  Not a good answer, but the only one I can give.  As things break free, I can come back around and see what I can plug in where.  Good thing about the way it was designed, when we get the alternative roof and ends done, it's an easy swap.  Maybe this might be something we could do in Resin....

Richie, I'm not 100% sure, but I think the car was used as some sort of snack bar, so it might have been to hold up a sign.
