DN163A0, problems with 4 digit address...

I have a DN163A0 and using a DCS50 I can program the 4 digit address to a number in the 7400 series but the decoder will only respond to 03.

Any ideas?

Hmmm.  Make sure everything is kosher with the connections, then do a factory reset (CV8=8) and try again.  Also try programming the address on the program track vs. the main and see what happens.

There is a CV that disallows a 4 digit address if it's set wrong.  I think it's 29, but I'm not sure what the value has to be.  Bring to the ER tomorrow and I'll see what's up.

Decoders usually (always?) come with CV29 set for the decoder to use a two digit address, specifically 03.  A decoder stores a two digit address in CV1, and stores a four digit address in CVs 17 and 18.  So a decoder can be programmed to have both a 2 digit and a 4 digit address, and the setting of CV 29 determines whether the 2 digit or the 4 digit address will be used.  To switch to the 4 digit address, add 32 to whatever is in CV29.  To switch from a 4 digit to a 2 digit address, subtract 32 from whatever is in CV29.

After you mentioned 29 I did a CV check and found it was set to the correct value 38, I flashed CV8 then rewrote CV29 to 38 on both lokies and now they both accept the addy's and respond. Odd that they were factory set to 38 and needed to be rewrote to work. I'll bring them anyway to get some track time. Packing to leave now.

Maybe it is the DCS50 that set CV29 to 38.  I doubt that it was a factory setting.
