I've come into a pair of NSN 60' GSC flatcar castings...

Question - who rostered these in the 1990's or so? Can't seem to much evidence of these - I believe there were WP cars with a bulkhead that NSN also sold as an individual kit.

Since I have several latice bulkheads in the junkbox, that would be something to consider as well, although again - who had them?

The WP welded flats altered for wallboard service, starting in 1955, were 56' PS4s and then Thrall cars of the same design. Other riveted cars of shorter designs were on the roads roster as well, from a variety of builders including PC&F and ACF. However, I don't think the WP ever owned GSC flats.

The UP still has some of the ex-WP welded cars in revenue and MOW service. I don't know that they ever parted with any of them to any other road, though I've seen some very similar flats caught on the NWP's severed north line around Eureka. I never verified whether these were ex-WP or SP cars or of another heritage.

I'd love to see photos of the NSN models though. I suggested these cars recently to N Scale Kits and they asked for more info, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed they'll be available in the near future.

There was an NSN WP car on Ebay about 2 weeks ago - in a lot with other flatcars. I was going to bid on it, but of course, I forgot.

I'll take a photo next week - my dang camera is being repaired at Canon but should be back next week.

Basically it looks like a slightly longer Walthers GSC car. Very well executed. Atlas trucks w/ accumates fit the car, though it is drilled for bodymount couplers.

The NSN WP car was exactly or close to that photo...

The NSN 60' GSC comes with no bulkheads at all - just a flatcar....

It'll be a while... but I'll look at the older NS equipment outlines and see if they had any and who built them... problem is they may not spec if GSC provided the frame.

I recant on part of my initial statement. In hindsight, and after reviewing the SP color guides I have, the cars stuck on the NWP's north end are definitely SP or Cotton Belt heritage, not WP.

If anyone wants the WP car though, I recommend dropping N Scale Kits a message to prompt them to consider my recommendation even more seriously - sales@nscalekits.com

Robbman, thanks...  It would be great if NS/SOU/NW had some as I am seriously short on NS freight cars. I am converting a pair of Walthers pulpwood cars into the cut-down bulkhead flats.

In addition to the X58's, FVM needs to do the SOU waffleside cars....  :)

I don't know if they left home rails, but those cut down pulpwood rack tie gons are pretty cool.
