FVM Milwaukee Road Box

These arrived at the shop unexpectedly Wednesday. I'm surprised nobody has posted pictures yet. Another very nice car from FVM and a great odd car in the mix for a transition era freight.

I plan on getting a few, just didn't want to "pre-order".

That does look nice!

Thanks for posting the photos. The reason no one has been talking about these cars is that very few people have them yet. Where did you get this car? I have six on order from FRT and my order is still "In Progress". I can't wait for them to arrive.

As for the model, these look great. The ride height looks better than their Soo Line cars (which are also really, really nice). With the various paint schemes and model types, I can see myself buying quite a few of these. I have about 10 resin rib sides from various sources, but they don't look nearly as good as these. I may have to park those in some dimly lite spot.

Best wishes, Dave
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Can someone tell me what era these would be. I model the transition era
with a cut off date of 1960. Which ones do I need to buy?  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Did other roads have these or were they a Milwaukee car only?

They look really nice - along with the other FVM cars...

I have found that the Atlas 50' boxcar underframes fit the FVM cars (with a little filing, etc) - and lower them substantially - along with changing to Atlas trucks.

Rib Side Cars has a nice page that describes various phases and paint schemes. You can find it here:
http://ribsidecars.com/ribsidecars_016.htm

All of these paint schemes lasted into the 1980s-90s...now the numbering series changed repeatedly.

Did other roads have these or were they a Milwaukee car only?

The Western Pacific had at least one car, but that is the only other road that I know of...

Best wishes, Dave

Hmmm, I wonder if Fox River will be doing the 50" single door short rib, and some of those converted chip cars?

To follow up on Dave's statement, the WP had a total of two 1948 short rib phase 1 cars. These 40' single door cars were purchased in '62 and remodeled with 9' Youngstown doors and several interior options. They were assigned to haul appliances for Amana. They carried the Western Way sans serif scheme and Spartan Easy Loader symbol on the door.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

From what I've seen announced on their web site, there are three body styles, Long Rib, Phase 1 Short Rib, and a Double Door. They have multiple pant schemes for each body style, but I haven't seen the yellow striped scheme announced as of yet. So far only the Long Rib and Double Door styles have been available for pre-order.

The ends are a little disappointing.  They must have used Intermountain's HO scale drawings to cut the dies.
