TT 89' Runner Packs from MT

You technically cannot use MTL's 45' Conrail Trailvan if you're modeling 1980.  If I remember correctly, 45' trailers were legalized in 1982.  But as I was told once, model railroading is fantasy...  I am hoping that either MTL or Athearn paints up some 40' Conrail Trailvans.  They make them in HO, so I am thinking it is only a matter of time until we see them in N scale.  Microscale's N scale Conrail Trailvan set has been discontinued for a while.  I wish I would have gotten some while they were available.  Thanks.

Since I model 1974 I need some of the yellow too. But the brown for this particular is good from the build date (1968 IIRC and assuming Kadee/MT applied the right scheme road numbers to them) up into the 1980s.

These cars ever saw brown... earliest they were built was 1973.  Applies to any of the versions MT may have done (i.e, container, trailer, both)

I just spent my 89ft flat budget on Alan Curtis cars off eBay.  So I took one for the team. 

Frankly, I can't see how releasing something after almost a decade of requests is considered "listening".  Most fifth graders listen better than that.

Do we have a price yet?  In these nervous economic times I'm reluctant to commit my self to much.  I suppose the one thing that works to MT's advantage is their delivery schedule is at least predictable...

So which livery is suitable for which era?

I think the yellow TT scheme was in use from roughly the mid-70's (1973?) to the mid-90's.  Here's a page of TT shots, mostly from the 80's.  The earliest photo I found of a TTX scheme was 1996 (from a brief search).  These models would be easy to update: just weather, patch, and decal, as in this 1997 shot.

And don't forget the MLE hitches to go with.

Thanks for the info!  I may yet "tweak" history a bit.  I used to be a real stickler for build dates and paint scheme dates...  I'm somewhat less so now.  After all, I've been running my Kato GG1 without catenary!  That felt dirty at first... but in a good way!;)

How easy would it be to convert these to KTTX class cars?

How are these different from a WTTX  class cars?

They are a WTTX car... WTTX was first used as a mark for these cars in 1985.   Not many left today... though I spotted one in storage two years ago on the Walking Horse & Eastern

To make one a KTTX car, remove the circus ramps, and move the hitches to the ends of the car so they have the ends of the trailers facing towards the middle of the car, allwonig two 45' to sit between them..  Note that KTTX cars have fixed hitches.
