Because I feel like all I do is BS... new photos

Sometimes I feel like all I do is talk about modeling. So in the past few nights I actually did some.

First up a C30-7 that I got at a train show a few months back. Not bad for $50, even though it IS cold war technology under the hood...

It still needs some light weathering, but I did details (cab signal box, plow, custom anti-climber) and brought the paint up to 2000s standards with painted handrails and detail decals (testing stars, warning labels). Still need to do numberboards, but I applied the Microscale "Black" backing decals, which already help a lot.





Next up just some shots from the layout:

Ed, you've done a very creditable job capturing that drab autumn feel on your layout... right down to the lighting (2nd shot). It's almost depressing... great job!

I have three of those CR C30-7's in a box somewhere... I'll probably try to sell them around the time Atlas announces a C30-7. Oh well, I've still got those 9 U30C's somewhere...

And Mike, you have 9 U30Cs floating around you may want to move. Not this week, but some day I might be glad to help... but that response was excellent (although, the C30-7 was far from common on CR. They had a bunch of the later C30-7As, but only a handful of the plain C30-7s.)

Tim, that grass is actually a silflor mat from Scenic Express. I had thought about using them entirely, but realized that as far as "normal" grass goes, it's just too tall and "thin" for N. After I glued the mat down, I sifted dirt onto it, which I think helped it a lot.

That is one of the best photos I've seen in ages, except you f**ked it up with that piece of supertree in the right foreground that a train would hit.

Get it out of the way and you'll have a prizewinning shot!!

You know me: I'm a big fan of your work.  But, like Gregg, I also picked up on that piece of Super Tree in the foreground of that shot he copied in the previous post (that's also my favorite picture of the group you posted).  I think a train would probably clear the "limb," but what bothers me most about it, is that Super Trees don't really make for good up-close branch detail.  If you want to place a broken limb in the ditch, I'd go break off a piece of real twig or something actually woody.

But, as always, your ground cover is phenomenal.

Ed-- The last shot is my favorite also.  The ground cover on the hillside and viewing the rear of the train through the branches is FANTASTIC!  Truly a great shot.

It's funny, I didn't notice that branch until I posted the shot, at which point it was too late.

I'm thinking about floating that around to some places to see if they'd be interested in it, and if so I'll probably reshoot it, sans-branch.
