MRC 1811 Decoder

1811 is for the U23 however the documentation says "fits multiple Atlas diesels", so my question, so my question is what other Atlas lokies does this item support? I also noted that it has no BEMF...which is something I find valuable...anyone have any negative experiences working without BEMF?

Most of my engines have cheap digitrax decoders which do not have BEMF.  They work fine for me.  BEMF causes a lot of problems if you're trying to consist locomotives.

I'd say ditch the MRC decoder period because they are sketchy and don't read back on any system.

Even on an MRC system?  Is this one of their sound boards?

The drop in for the U-23 should also fit in the GP38/40/40-2, as well as the SD-35, and the U-25.  Might also fit a GP-50, but I don't have one of them...

Hmmm, curious...

According to the Digitrax website, the U-23B takes the DN163A0 (i.e. Atlas "standard board")...

MRC already has two sound decoders that replace the standard board; the original 1636 (which requires a milled frame for the speaker in the fuel tank) and the newer 1812.  I see no reason they would need a third board for that...

Add to that, the locomotive shown on the 1811 webpage on the MRC website appears to be a GP35, which uses the Digitrax DN163A2 board (Atlas "short board"), and it makes me wonder if MRC is confused about what size decoder the U-23B uses.

I know I bought a 1812 from MB Klein because it was listed as being a replacement for the Atlas "long board" (SD-50/SD-60/SD-60M); well, it wasn't - it fits the Atlas "standard board" locomotives, and the 1828 is needed for the "long board" units.

If the 1811 is the equivalent of the DN163A2, it fit GP30, GP35, GP7 and GP9.

As far as read-back, the original MRC sound boards didn't (not even on MRC systems); the newer ones (1660 and up) do.

The killer for me for those MRC decoders is no BEMF. And for those that say "BEMF doesnt work in consists"...sorry, if configured properly BEMF works fine in consists. The reason people say it doesnt work is because people have it dialed in way to high. Additionally in some instances and CV settings BEMF will "auto off" when the address is added to a consist.

You'll have to show me that trick... I've got a couple of engines that behave badly when consisted... I believe that's the trouble, but I haven't read up on how to fix it...
