Atlas Decorated Bodies

The Atlas Moderator mentioned that they are now selling Decorated Bodies starting with the GP-7/9's.  Since they are offering the older Reading GP-7's, which I have been looking for, I'm happy.  Hopefully they will offer other body styles soon.

I hope they will eventually sell just the color molded handrails.

Thanks for the heads up on this, Bob!  This is great!  I finally got that C&O GP9 #5924 without having to pay an arm and a leg on the 'Bay for the entire locomotive.  I've got the perfect DCC ready frame to use for this shell.  Now I can justify the purchase of that Chessie System GP7, which also provides me with the correct blue fuel tank and trucks!  Bye bye, kitty!  ;D

Thank you, Atlas!  Whoever came up with this idea at Atlas deserves a huge raise.  I would imagine that modelers will line up in droves for these factory painted shells!  Keep 'em coming!

I'm wondering if these are shells from models that didn't sell well, the mechanisms being used again for newer releases. If so, it's a clever strategy.

I certainly can't speak for Atlas, but since the shell that I bought originally came on a non-DCC ready frame, I doubt the mechanisms for the C&O GP9s were put back onto the assembly line for newer releases of GP7/9s, which now use a redesigned DCC ready frame.

That's a good point you make, Dave. I was just wondering why that choice of road names. I can't believe these shells are fresh from the factory. But if so, Atlas is being even smarter than I imagined! The next thing they need to do is to offer updated mechanisms without shells at an MSRP $10 less than the regular models.

Paul mentioned that these are from spare parts storage and are limited in number.  As other bodies become available they will offer them.
