Caution: Steamy Images...

In the past two weeks, I've gotten a half dozen steam locomotives to put decoders in, including three of the Model Power Pacifics.  The Semi Streamlined version doesn't do much for me... the streamlining is pretty poorly rendered, and was obviously concocted to add some badly needed weight over the drivers (it and the boiler casting are metal).  But they run quite smoothly, although a little noisy.

You can see here that the standard version is a pretty handsome locomotive, the NP version features painted whitewalls on the drivers... A very nice touch!

I also got to tinker with a ConCor S-2, which is also a pretty nice looking locomotive.  If only it comes with box-pock drivers, it would make a very suitable starting place for a WM Potomac.  On this one I was just adjusting some CV's and fixing some contact problems.  One of the traction tires kept wanting to slip, but I think I got that fixed, too.

Here's the second one of these little buggers I've done...  The worst part is dealing with the headlights.
Runs great, though, and these are really fun to watch.  Sooner or later I'll get around to putting a chip in mine!

This one's my favorite, a good ole' Bachmann 2-8-0.  Sooner or later I'm going to want to get a brace of these to run down at the club with a 70 car coal train... mid train helpers and pushers at the back.  This one was cool, because I think it was my first all website score.  I never got an e-mail or any other contact from the owner (that I'm aware of).  It just showed up in the mailbox on Monday!

With all this visiting hardware, I had to pull my two tea kettles out for their new family portraits as well...

The K-2

And my somewhat stylized H-7 Consolidation.

It's been fun running steam on the layout... It's definitely got me thinking impure thoughts...

Lee,
Once you get infected by steam, it's hard to recover. Of course why would you want to?

I've justified my "impure thoughts" by rostering an "Excursion Fleet", worth a shot... I mean with that justification I can run the Daylight AND the Broadway...together!

Aaaahh! Turn it off man, turn it off! It's sucking my will to live! Oh, the humanity!

One of the benefits of the little decoder side hustle is I get to work on and test drive a variety of lokies without the cash outlay...  In fact, it's kind of fun getting paid for it!  The downside is that my own stuff gets pushed to the back burner...

I've been tempted to buy a Bachmann model of the N&W J-class steamer #611, which ran an excursion or two on the RF&P in the 1980s.  Thankfully, I don't think the model will run on my minimum radius curves of 12 3/4".  Whew!

Are you going to do NKP 765, Tim, or should I?

I will be modeling 759 which Leilich let Roland store at Hager for while and then pulled a AJ freight I think in 1969-73. The vid has some PC stuff but the gist is the same.

Yes... 759.  Couldn't remember which one ran on the WM...  Good catch.

No worries another bear to model will be 2101 for the Reading Rambles which occured through the late 60's too. Going to use a GS-4 as a donor if Mr. Kato doesnt release the Santa Flush series Northerns.

I hear the new Bachmann Northern mechanism isn't too shabby... Maybe worth a $50 gamble?  Then you'd need the right tender and a bit of a nose job...

I'm weak when it comes to avoiding the purchase of motive power, so that's NOT the kind of encouragement I need right now, Tim.    ;)

Seriously, I chased #611 in 1994 during an excusion from Winston-Salem to Asheville, NC.  I have always wanted a model of the locomotive, so I find it hard to believe that I've gone this long without caving in.

It's like 50 bones on eBay right now, stimulate the ecomony, bolster your excursion fleet, get one now before it's too late! Just to make it that much sweeter...Rapido did the HO passenger cars in N&W...their N scale releases followed the HO roadnames...coincidence? Who know's, but I know its telling every 611 owner to go for GOLD. Can you hear it?

I love being EVILE MUAHAHAHAHAH!
