New trainworx steel drop bottoms

Just read my email and had a newsletter from Pat Sanders.  Steel drop bottom gons in N&W in 6 numbers along with others.  They look pretty nice and will go with the dozen in the project box waiting for lettering.  I know that are not a perfect match for what N&W ran, but I'm of the mindset that they are close enough for me.

Yeah, two months after I posted my plan for the undec versions they announce this hehe

They will be lettered as N&W class G-11. It's a bit of a stretch, as the model is about 5 feet to short in length, and a bit low. On the other hand this may be as close to a correct model as we'll get in N scale (I plan to get a couple).

It's 8 feet too short, and over a foot too low... and is missing the forty Wine locks as well.  That's worse than trying to sell a quad hopper as an Ortner... oh wait...

The G-11 was 48'6" inside/50'2" outside according to Dow's book.

The Trainwx gon is 46' according to the site (http://www.train-worx.com/gon.undec.htm)

So assuming that the 46' is the inside dimension, then the Trainworx gon is 2.5' too short in length.

But it's still a foobie, and all the other stuff Robb pointed out still holds.

You know what the difference between Trainworx foobies and other (MTL) foobies is?  I can still buy the correct cars in a whole bunch of numbers.  I don't care how many foobies they make to help amortize tooling, as long as I can buy the prototype cars first.

Agreed.  D&RGW versions on my layout look nice.

Foobie or not it's N&W.  I'm just happy to get something already painted in N&W.  I already knew that it was a stand in, but I could wait a young mans lifetime to get something closer and I'm not young anymore!

Since I happen to have a couple undecs I measured it this morning. From top outer edge of the body to top outer edge it measures 46' 6".

Agreed.  Just like the FVM coal hoppers, we could just say piss on 'em and wait another 20 years for that EXACT model to come around, or we can take the hand we're dealt.  (I'll admit it would be nice for FVM to get the artwork right on at least ONE of their RD-4 releases before it's all said and done!) 

I'm pretty sure I'll be dead-and-gone before accurate hi-side Thrall coal gons reach the market and I'm a pretty healthy 36 years old.  Yet, I have some of the MDC's, even though they're hideous.  I'm guessing the 60 year-old n-scaler that saw these when they were released and said, "nah I'll wait" was calling Dr. Kevorkian when Athearn released the same 25 year-old tooling in the mid-2000's.
