Paul's book is a "now and then" type of thing, retracing the line.  i have the Boyd/Antz book, and have ordered the Flags, Diamonds and Statues article.  I've also joined the Anthracite Railroads Historical Society.

if i put the staging 6" below the grades are enormous and stupid looking.  i really haven't been able to come up with a way to have staging and keep the spirit of the L&HR.

i think David was glad to help you since it was an "easy" project - i think he's done with me.  i'll be in his neck of the woods this weekend.  i'll drop by so you can smack me.

if i change Warwick to be Hudson and make it 4 through tracks and the main, that might work - that would require the code 55 curved turnouts, if they ever make it out of the shipping container.

A long time ago in a thread far, far away, a staging yard was recommended as just a loop around the very back edge of the layout, set just slightly lower than the rest of the track. Why not start looking at that again, with a few changes:

Run the staging yard leads off the main at each end of the Franklin siding. From these points, run the yard leads downgrade along the walls, and run the mainline upgrade and pulled in slightly. Staging yard ladders would be to the upper left and right of the plan, with the staging tracks across the top back. They would all be exposed except at the top left and right corners, where the mine and Warwick yard would pass over the staging yard.

it might work better is the staging was in front of the yard... this way i could fiddle while a train takes a lap...

Don't put staging in front.  That would make it less than hidden.
You can still fiddle with the staged trains over on the left and or right sides at the staging throats..
