Layout questions

Tried to search around to see if anyone had asked this before or not and couldn’t find anything so if some knows where there is a topic covering this please point me in the right direction. 

I will be starting a hollow core door  layout that will use two doors in a L shaped design.  I currently live in an apartment and will be moving some time in the future.  What I want to know is when I move and have room to expand my layout, how hard will it be to incorporate the two doors into a permanent layout? Has anyone gone this route before or would I be better off waiting?  Due to apartment rules where I live, I can’t do any kind of work such as building framework for a modular layout. My plan for now is to either use a table to hold up the layout or take folding legs off of two tables and attaché them to the bottom of the two hollow core doors.  Also, over the hollow core doors I am going to use two inch extruded foam insulation, what would be the best road bed to lay track on. I will be using some form of sectional track (don’t know if I am ready for hand laid track) and was planning on using cork for the road bed, or can the track be placed on the foam? I was thinking that I would use the cork to raise the track over the surrounding secenery?

Thoughts?

Sorry if I ramble to much and thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. You guys do some amazing work.

It all depends on the track design . Chances are , you will be more that willing to redo what you have on the doors . Tastes , and desires change over time . Don't that hold you back . Live for today and do what you want . Tomorrow , you will be another you , a you that you can't predefine .

Puddington might chime in here.  He has two smaller layouts, I think one is on a door, and he's working out a plan to tie them together into a larger rig.

I think for most of us, though, a door layout is sort of a temporary test bed where you try out new techniques, push yourself as far as you want to go with scenery, trackwork and electronics, then take the lessons learned to the next layout.

Sometimes forcing yourself to adapt an old layout into something new is more constricting than just starting over.

Precisely what Lee said.

I realized, when I was starting my current project, that if I over-analysed it and tried to make it work for something in the future, that it'd be really difficult to do it "right" for what it is.

I'd say build the layout for today, and don't be afraid of starting over when the time comes.

On a more serious note, thanks for all the help.

Next question, due to money constraints, is there a way to save sectional track to reuse once I start my permanent layout or should I just plan on buying more track?

If you install it with white glue, you can spray it with soapy water and it'll pop right up.
