Not just the cracks, but the texture and weathering of the asphalt is superb. Just one thing, for the sake of the tenants of that business (and motorists!), I hope there will be some wheel stops installed on that industry siding!

That looks like joint compound for the road surface, no?  I might have to put some work into my little road... I've got about 4 gallons of the stuff leftover from the bedroom project!

It's not even remotely photo worthy, but I successfully added decoders to my GP15-1s this weekend.

I haven't programmed them yet though. That'll have to wait until the weekend at the BANTRAK setup, since I don't have a system at home.

yep, I used spackle with india ink for tint.. you have to add a TON of that stuff to even get the grey color.  then I sanded it to smooth it out.   I even put a layer of the fiberglash mesh tape in there, so control cracking.  it's about 1/4" thick..

I have another section to do as well.. how much you wanna bet my color won't match!  LOL

Those are Jamie's cracks. :)   I used one of my kids pencils, sharpened as well as I could.. then just drew 'em on.

for the dark stripes in the center of each R.O.W., I just scribbled on the pencil and rubbed it in with my finger.

Jamie,  have you tried sealing yours?  I was thinking a layer of dullcoat would help protect it.

No, I'm afraid it will discolor or mess up the weathered look. It has held up well so far, so I'm ok with it. I just touch it up from time to time.

I tint my joint compound with cement die (comes in a bottle from Home Depot with the concrete supplies and a little goes a long way). I have also played around with airbrushing the road a bit, but overall I get better results with chalks and cracks.

I'm going to thin out some craft acrylic to tint mine.  I want to get a concrete road look, so I won't need much tint.  I'll also work in small batches...  I'll report my results when the time is right.

Whilst I have no love of the Steelers, I can't resist a Lee bash.....(snicker)

"good Kitty.......good kitty"...........
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!
