It's Raining Bay Window Cabeese?

Athearn has a pre-production sample of a Bay Window Caboose at the Big E in Sprinfield. According to Charlie Hopkins it looks pretty nice with raised grabs. It was not a finished sample.

I am told that Micro Trains will announce an SP Bay Window Caboose for delivery in May at some dinner going on this evening in Springfield.

Word has it that a third manufacturer will also come forward with one in a few months.

I knew this would happen. Hopefully all three will do differing variations so we can all get what we want.

Of course, none of them will be good for Southern.  I'm not even going to hold my breath for A&EC or NS.

Thanks for the info Chuck.  This reminds me of the FT situation with MT and IMR.  I'm hoping that we'll eventually see reasonably accurate versions for both C&NW and CGW.

Bob already mentioned in another thread that the Athearn one is the same as one he was doing (I think it was a C-50-9).

I hoping that at least one manufacturer will do a bay window from east of the Mississippi; I could use a B&O, a Chessie, and a P&LE just to start.

Someone out there has to explain to me why two manufacturers would choose one specific time in history to produce the same "odd ball" car (well, virtually the same) for the same road name.... and this isn't the first time it's happened.

Hey; "Macy's DOES tell Gimble's" in this world;especially if the up front tolling charges are as high as we are lead to believe and when the "hobby dollars" of the average modeler are on the decline.....And; not for nothing but there is a statistically insignificant chance that this happened with absolutely no knowledge on one or the other parties behalf.

So; what is the advantage to playing copycat caboose tag....?

The Athearn rep told me that the bay window caboose is an SP type, but that they would be doing other roads with that caboose.

No other roads were divulged.

I would imagine the same would be true with the MT Cab. However, I'm sure they'll have multiple SP schemes also. Unfortunately for TrainCat, the BW window market is gonna get mighty crowded soon.

I saw a very poor (camera phone?) picture of the Athearn "pre-prodution prototype"...couldn't tell much from it at all. We shall see what develops, as the lab technician says to the photographer...
