Micro Train Heavyweight Passenger Car update

Well, the Z-scale passenger cars are soooooo bad, they're sold-out. We doubled our normal standing order on z-scale cars and they were all gone in two days. MT's HW passenger cars will almost have to be better than the 40-year-old RivaRossi tooling. RR has no plans to make any N-scale equiptment for sale in the US, so if you ain't got some old Con-Cor stuff, MT will be the only game in town(does the Model Power stuff count?). If 33" wheelsets are such a big deal on passenger cars, how come 99% of people use them? Oh, I know! From 3" you can't tell the difference! It seems so amazing to me, the number of complaints about non-existant products. Also, if you are so proto-type accurate, why didn't you buy Pecos River Brass HW cars when John was making and selling them. Oh! I know that too! You're a bunch of whiney-*ss cheap-skates. I don't recall seeing Micro-Trains putting guns to people's head to buy their products either, or anyone else. If you don't like it, don't buy it! Do better yourself. A quick Google search will turn-up three companies in Japan that will make any brass model of anything you want for a price. I know of two people who have had that done, but they don't post on forums.

  One of the most needed cars in N is a heavyweight RPO Baggage car orfull RPO. Only cars that ever existed were Brass Santa Fe car from Pecos River,and a kit for an SP Harriman car. Wheels O Time will probably doan RPO next, hope it is a Baggage RPO not a shorty RPO only car. I always expected Rivarossi to do or or Con Cor to get them to do their other HO Heavyweight cars in N. Their RPO Baggage car, their heavyweight Duplex Room sleeper,SP & PRR had some, and their coach,different from the N one ,older style with some arch windows . This never happened. Not as popular as the ones you all have been linking too but the USRA design was what he wanted... B-(  Myself I would have bought something that would resemble what my road had (wouldn't have to be perfect, just similar) but now I guess I won't be buying any of the RPOs.  At least there's hope with the chair car and the Pullmans (wonder if the chair car will be another B&O coach?).

That attests nothing to the quality or value of the product in a pre-order limited-production market...  especially when it's the only game in town.

Never has so much energy been uselessly wasted on a product that hasn't even been announced yet.  : How boring.

I've never been an MT cheerleader or a basher. I think I'll wait until I see the artwork and product rather than jump up and down, stomp my feet, throw a tantrum and hold my breath until I turn blue wishing somebody else did the cars.

Most of our UP's were gone by saturday. The main reason MT's are popular as there is no competition.

I've got a dozen of the PRB cars.  Well done and heavy.  Problem is on my rebuilding layout the curves are too sharp and they don't go around them worth a darn since they have body mounted couplers.  Thinking of maybe selling some or redoing one mainline track with wider curves so I can run them.

I'll reserve judgement on any new cars until I see them.  Am surprised at the amount of animousity on this subject.

Right now we are wading through the four body styles and once those are done I will be (if sales are good) working on a number of others. A full size Baggage, Baggage Combo is top of the list as will a Business or end of train style of car. I wish we had the capacity in house to do about 8 cars at the same time and get the pain of waiting over, but this is a good start.

So a full baggage would logically follow - perfect ! - a tail observation/solarium/lounge/lounge/sleeper ...... something for the rear too would be a welcome addition (again; it would be something to be used as a starting point for a bash of a specific car) - What I am less excitied about is a "combo".... Baggage-coaches seemed to be "highly road specific" (the Riverossi car being something of an obscure ATSF layout) But all in all this seems to be going in the right direction.

And; with regard to those who are critical of the Z scale passenger car quality - this "ain't Z scale", it';s N; these cars are not out yet; MT has a track record of good N scale quality for over 20 years, so let's put our critical button's in the hold position until we see what's being delivered....... "

I agree absolutely Micro trains Z scale has always been hit and miss. there is no way to tell how well they'll do on N scale cars.
Probably the closest thing to compare to is the troop cars. If they can make the heavyweights on par with those...

I just can't stand this "bash it before it's made" mentality. That's the rant, and it's valid. I thought that was an "A" board speciality. I was being facitious about the 33" vs: 36" wheels, but only a little. I'd like Frisco prototype HW passenger cars. Ain't gonna happen. "Close" will have to do. I'm not capable of modeling in N-scale. Kit-bash, yes. Slice and dice some cars, yes. I think I could handle brass car sides in N. I can't build vac-u-formed aircraft either. I admire people who can do things I can't. But like a huge number of people, if I can't buy it, I can't have it. Let me see the MT HW cars before you tell me they're no good.
