The missing sight glass is the deal killer. They can hardly give them away. :P

The biggest issues, other than the missing sight glass is that the locomotives were listed as DCC ready, but there is no provision for a drop-in decoder.  They require hard-wiring, which turns quite a few people off.  Also, the fans are considered crude as compared to Atlas' details.  However, for $29.99, I have been eyeing at least one of the Seaboard System GP38-2s for the last few days.  I've already got a decoder on hand that was salvaged out of a broken locomotive this week, to make the attempt at converting the unit to DCC.

$29.99 is a great price for these. They're definitely worth that.

If I didn't just get a pair (at $40), I'd be in for the CR units.

They need a lot of work, but for that price, I'm willing to do it.

Could one of you guys that have this loco try to put an Atlas GP40-2 shell on it.. I have an extra Maryland Midland shell that I would use the cheap frame for.

Wow, I'm glad that the DRGW didn't have these....................or I would really be "stocking up" on them.

Great price, and if they run as well as the LL GP60's, these are really a "steal"

gave it a try, the LL chassis is just a little too wide.  I suppose you could try to mill the sides to make it fit, I've never tried anything like that myself, so I can't tell you if it's doable or not.  sorry

I was just flipping through this months walthers catolog and the GPs are $29 there too, so its not just an MBK thing. Oh and I ordered a Seaboard unit!
