Weekend Update - 11-30-08

Not much from me but I did manage to finish a camera car last week to have ready for the Tour de Chooch this weekend. The car was a hit and ran quite flawless. It's mounted in an RDC that has been gutted of all the driveline parts and motor. This is permanently drawbar coupled to a second RDC that has a decoder in it. Latter in this week I will get some shots of the inner workings and what I had too do to make this work. So for now here's a shot up close. You can just make out the lens of the camera through the door window. The shot was taken on Mec Fan's layout.

i had planned on heading to get lumber to build up the bench work for the new layout.  it will be done using the oNetrack style corners - Ed, are you listening?  i'm also planning on a branch that will extend into the middle.

I got half the sheet rock up in the kid's room.  She comes home two weeks from tomorrow.  I can hear it now... "Welcome home Gracie, here's your paint brush..."

As usual, anything good in life or in model railroading is always a collaboration, and if
these pictures are any good, it's because of that collaboration.   I think
we are in an amazing time... we as model railroaders can collaborate across
miles, distances, continents..... and share the good spirits we have.   
Even despite huge difficulties in today's world (mine included recently), for
this collaboration and friendship, I am so humbly thankful.  My hat's off to *all* of
you, my fellow model railroaders.

My "projects" have been confined to my bathroom. Replacing 54 year-old gas heater(smokes now) with an electric heater and replacing a vent fan. In both cases, what should have been a 6 hour job has turned into several week jobs, because of things like old house with plaster lathe under sheetrock and getting old heater out of the wall required major surgury on the wall to get to the supply pipe. I'm about two minutes from gutting the entire bathroom and replacing all the antique fixtures and all the drywall and flooring. Keep that Sawzall and the 16 lb sledge outta reach! :

I spent a bunch of time fixing up the basement getting it ready for The Big One.  I've also gone off the deep end sprucing up a bunch of trailers and containers so I have some decent looking loads for all those intermodal units completed or in the works: e.g. a Schneider trailer I painted from a Deluxe "scratch & dent" set:

Also a bunch of containers with magnets added for Super-Stack service, and door hardware finished with decal stripes:

P.S. Dave, Nice shots - the brake lights on the cars at the crossing are a nice touch.  Tom, that Rio Grande unit is HO and Z?  It's spectacular.  I'm expecting The Book this week.
