Well, I think that's the interesting thing. The paint may be semi-new, or at least a thorough touch-up, but they probably left the reporting marks alone for reporting purposes. Notice how it's not in a real EL font.

But it's still a cool car.

Lee - CSXT-CR cars got NYC markings - but as far as I know NO NS-CR cars got any remarkings at all (until fully repainted). There are plenty of EL gons, PC gons, and PRR (!!!) gons still floating around!

The car has obviously been touched over, but like most of the ragged pre-CR cars it has been restenciled.

It is an EL car for sure - one of the fleet of 70T hoppers that CR mysteriously kept while disposing of all other non-100T cars.

Last March a couple of us were railfanning in the Dalton Georgia and came across a CSX Balast train in Resaca just after sunset. His cars were hidden behind some buildings and brush when he was stopped waitng for another train. When he got moving again it was dark but cursed our luck because as he went buy it was like a Who's Who of fallen flags. He had old converted hoppers, C&O For Progress, B&O Chessie, SCL, Reading, P&LE, EL Diamond logo's, NYC, L&N and a D&RGW. We wrote 'em down simply because there was nothing else we could do. None of these were re-stenciled.

Where at? I never see any here in Central PA, so I think I need to make a road trip if they're localized somewhere. We still see some PC gons, and RDG gons are a rare visitor, but I haven't seen a EL or PRR car in active service on NS in quite a long time.

Did you forget the string of EL hoppers going around HS curve in 2005?
I wonder what happened to them,if they are still in service.

Ok, plenty was an exageration!!!

But the 18G/19G trains from north Jersey to Pittsburg frequently have a couple of old PC/PRR/EL gons in their consist, always loaded with coiled steel (or going back empty).  Most are totally rust with their reporting marks restenciled on.

CSX MofW equipment is always a gold mine... one of the things I look forward too on railfanning trips.

Aggregate service? Although, I can't see why. If a road like MMID operates 100 tonners (ex-Rio Grande hoppers, I think) in aggregate service for sure NS and CSX wouldn't be using 70 tonners?

Same here. It's been at least 10 years since I've seen a PRR car or a revenue EL car. FWIW, as of 1/04 there were 2 PRR gons, 77 RDG hoppers and gons, 48 various PC cars, and 22 various EL cars in revenue service. Of course, many  of these have since been retired though more exist as MOW cars.

The old Rotary Dump cars have been showing up here in NE Georgia on the old SAL from time to time. CSX had used them to pick up old ties and debris, but one was here last september with no trackwork anywhere around.

That area looks familier. Where was the picture taken?

I don't know if they're the same exact ones, but NS does still have a handful of EL 3-bays running around in ballast service. I sometimes see them on the Pittsburgh-Reading train, they get loaded at a quarry in Birdsboro, PA.

Last PRR car I've seen in revenue service would have been 1999 or 2000, I recall a few flatcars and 65' gondolas floating around Abrams Yard outside of Philly. I actually just saw a RDG covered hopper on Thanksgiving, and a RDG gon this past Sunday.
