The one trip that I got to make as a nine year old kid in 1954 was in transcon sleepers. Going the car was a CZ car so it was just switched over to PRR at Union Station in Chi Town, but we had a whole days layover so we went to the Shedd Aquarium, return trip was in Union Pacific sleeper, this was pre MLW Road days trains ran on C&NW ,so we had another day layover, got to go for the first time to the Museum of Science & Industry and saw the Fabulious O Gauge Santa Fe layout, since replaced with HO. The sleeper was switched from Union Station where we came in on Pennsy to North Western Station. In mid afternoon we took one of the oft remembered "Parmalee" transfer limos over to the other station, where I got to see the Twin Cities 400 in all its Green & Yellow glory parked one track over before our City Of Los Angeles departed. The next train trip we took back east in 1958 transcon cars were gone and our arrival on MLW allowed for a same station transfer to PRR ,so we checked our bags in for our eveng departure, then went out on the town again.
