Were the black GS4s used for passenger service also? What about freight service?Jerry Geisert
The CNW heritage unit makes 3 now. Wonder how long until they get other Roadnames out.
I want to see a G in grime with one wide stripe on the engineer's side (and none on the fireman's side) with crooked CRs. I have a picture of just such a beast in a 1977 issue of Rails Northeast, and I think there's a photo in Fallen Flags.
Re: katousa.com: GS4 Wartime...On the wartime GS4's, shouldn't the description be that the skirts were REMOVED for easier maintenance, or am I missing something...
There's another layer to the GS "Warbabies". They were built without the wheel shrouds and with different skyline casings and I believe spoked drivers to save steel for the war effort. Richard, my boss can tell you road numbers etc., etc. as he's an EsPee fan. I'll see if he can give me a site with photos and the details. The entire GS story get quite invovled. The "plain Jane" black GS-4's were used on fast freights and any passenger train needing the power, mainly on the Coastal Route.
