Still an abundance of 40' cars, also 50' cars,  60 footers not as common.  Roller bearing trucks were not yet required so a lot of older plain bearing trucks to be found.

89' flats debuted in the early 1960s ...

There were 85' and 89' open racks of various manufacturers.

There were also bi-level open racks.

i really need to pickup an ORER for Jan 1968... just haven't seen one.  there is the big show at Gaithersburg on 2 Nov, but that might be a tad pricey.

True. Mostly of the hobo variety.

Cars mostly painted freight car red.  Big reason I liked earlier cars is the variety of road names which no longer exist.  Many class I's still in operation in pre-merger times.

they usually are when you find one. I've got a 1961 version and it cost $40. I have seen a few 1960's one's go on ebay for that range or higher. they are generally worth it, but they are not always 100% accurate.

I purchased a scanned copy of the 1969 OER  on eBay as a zipped download. It was a big file, but that is not an issue for me. It is also available as a CD. This solution may not be for those that like to page through a book, but I like it just fine. His eBay userid is dougvv4935, and he has a nice variety of other references.

There were still cars with wood running boards.

I don't know know if there were any interchange restrictions on them, but they were still in use.

Well the memory is the first thing to go. 

In 1967 there will still plenty of wood side cars, 'X-29' type cars, 1932 ara cars and 1937 box cars (as examples). All of which could still have wood running boards.

There are ample amounts of photos that show this.

that's what i meant - sure there were cars with wood roofwalks that were built prior to that date still in active service in 1967.
