Autoparts car pools

with all the autoparts car coming out, i'm looking for info on the various pools that existed - i'm striking out on the google.

That's a good question. A good starting point is the Walthers book on the Auto industry> I ahve the book and while it does not have info on specific pools, it does have a listing of Auto Plants and Parts plants as of 1997. Kalmbach's Industries along the rails V1 covers the basics of the industry also.

the only info after a few minutes searching is this (which I've seen elsewhere):

When they were introduced in the 1960s, eight-door versions serviced GM plants, while four-door variants were used by Ford and Chrysler.

I assume American Motors used these, but I don't really know.

I don;t know if they used 86' cars originally, but they did use some of the 60' cars for major components. I would say that 86' ers did get used to serve the heavy equipment plants, but probably bnot in pool service with shared revenue between all the railroads. They didn;t have the volume to ship that the auto plants did.

While were on the topic of autoparts cars, C&O used 50' box cars from the 19750-19999 series in the mid-60's to haul auto parts but I cannot find any pictures.

That's probably enough to get what I need.  Black car all white lettering with the "For Progress" logo and a more modern reporting mark lettering.

Hold on there!

I remember seeing MTL do similar cars recently (past few years at least), and I think they were blue, which would make sense for the C&O.

I'd do some more homework before hitting them with the spray bomb.

You're probably right.  I see MT made a few runs of this car.  Too bad the ORER doesn;t show any of these cars with end doors or these would be suitable for stand-in cars.

Those C&O cars were black, although I don;t think any of those cars came from the manufacturer like that. The white stripes on the MTL car were from when C&O experminted with doing several engines in 1960 or 61 poainted black with white Zebra stripes on the nose. Thankls god that was discontinued after a few engines. The strips on tehcar may indicate that theyt were specifically for Auto parts service though.
