Have you seen the last Atlas and Athearn announcements? Anything but slow for them

Rigt, but not alot of brand spankin' new tooling in all those announcements.

Because no one can go two or three months without new/modified tooling huh?

Not really sure what you mean AH, but it's simple business. If things are slow, you may have difficulty funding new tooling without sacrificng other releases. Many of the other announcements are new schemes on old tooling. More possible return on fewer sales.

Besides, who said we need new tooling every month. There is already alot of new tooling.....or retooling in the pipeline between the bigguys and the newer companies. How much more could we want? ;D  Yeah, yeah a little more.

Conjecture:

Red Caboose dropped serious coin tooling up and making those auto racks. I don't think they sold as well as they hoped.

Other:

Atlas seems to be cranking out at the usual pace.

Athearn actually has a bit of action going too - this past two years has been pretty prolific for them (compared to the conspicuous sluggishness they displayed after their "big splash" into N scale a few years back. I'm looking forward to the PS2893 hoppers.

crap, this got me looking at MBK to see what RC they had in stock. I notice they have some N&W coil cars - so I check the lone kit I own to make sure if I buy another it has a different # - thats when I notice that the "NW"  is rendered incorrectly ...  :

I have to check the proto photos but I'm pretty sure this is too tall & skinny (the NW):

I repeat - I have the actual model (kit - 1st run) - it is wrong.

The NW is too "narrow" - I'll let it slide on one car, but I'll pass on buying more.

I just noticed last night in the new N Scale Railroading issue(Nov/Dec 08), that Red Caboose announced new runs of CSXT coil cars.

The interesting thing about is the cover configurations. There will be 4 #s w/1 CSX yellow angled hood and 1 blue hood w/ Chessie & the kitty emblem; 4 #s w/2 CSX round blue hoods; & 4 #s w/1 Chessie blue angled hood and 1 Chessie yellow round hood.

I called Chuck today and ordered all 12. I hope these don't become vaporware. I am surprised not to see these announced anywhere.

They did the same thing in the Sep/Oct issue: announced a new TTZX open panel centerbeam (I want a bunch of those), but that release has not even appeared on the RC web site, let alone any of the e-tailer's sites.   Oh well.  At least these coil cars are listed on RC's future release page, so they're probably real.

They did that in HO last year. That announcement is not really new but it's just now hitting print. They haven't updated the website in forever.

Yike, you're right. I heavilly weathered the ones I had, and also mixed several NS/NW hoods/cars...
