Red Caboose

Some of my favorite models have come from Red Caboose - but they seem to be doing nothing in N recently... Anyone know what's up?  Just taking a rest, perhaps?

We just got another shipment of Tropicana Reefers and a few HO cars. The only new tooling they have been working on is a Modern PFE Reefer. Unfortunately IM is working on one two. Not the exact same car but close enough to hurt both their sales. But nothing new for N that I have heard of. I wonder if maybe they are trying to sell all or some of the company. Being a small, family company, there is not alot of cash floating around to crank out new tooling.

It's been a coon's age (even longer than since Hector was a pup) since Red Caboose has issued any X29-type boxcars, or wood-sided but steel roofs and ends 40 foot reefers. Their modern cars are scarce as hen's teeth, their transition era cars have totally evaporated.  :'(

I have no idea but I've been wondering the same thing.  They did announce a new run of TTZX centerbeams in NSR last month that I'm very keen on, though oddly their website says nothing about them. Racks continue to come out at a decent rate, but the rest is a trickle.  Too bad.

It has been a pretty slow year for new items from Red Caboose. The last thing I got from them was the TTZX centerbeams.

Lots of companies are slowing down. This has been a very bad year, and I think a few companies are taking a well deserved rest.

I emailed them many moons ago, and they seemed to have most X29's and ARA's in stock (except B&O, and at list price, of course). While there was a lot of demand initially, (I remember multiple runs of the X-29's), apparently it dropped off while they were still in production.
Apparently they still have lots in their warehouses. Just my guess, but this may explain the problem.

I wish they would do more 4700' Grain Hoppers. Would love to see the CNW's and some of the Elevator's done.

They made a 40' PFE steel reefer with PLUG door.
I bought one at a show and have never seen another.
I'd like to get a few more but can never find any
I don't think it was old PM tooling, but maybe it was?

A high quality 40' PD reefer is another sorely missed model
in N scale, imo.

The plug door 40 ft. reefer and the wood side, steel roof & ends, reefer were the last two cars done by PM, after the PFE all steel car. I had one on order for years and finally like you, picked up a car at a show.

I'm bummed by their silence as well. Last car I was really hoping for was the D&TS coil car with the 2 non-matching hoods they announced, then they never materialized.

I see MB Kleins got in another 12 car run of the orange Tropicana 62' reefers from Red Caboose.

I'm guessing when all else fails, go with something that always seems to sell out quickly.

Rigt, but not alot of brand spankin' new tooling in all those announcements.
