Bachman Spectrum 44-T

I haven't seem any other pics of the unit other than the ones that Bachmann released, and looking at those photos, they are predominently side view.

One thing I notice is the windows on the sides are to narrow in relation to scale of the model.

Any other pics online besides the B-mann released ones?

Horizon;s Dealer website and another distributor has said Late jan '09. Walthers website still shows end of November. When has bachman been ontime?

Of course, the HO scale Green 45 Tonners and excursion cars came in 2 weeks ago.

Yeah, it'll pull 80 auto-racks with B-mann wheelsets up a 5% grade at a scale 2.5MPH. : I think B-mann can get the speed under control. Most of their deisels run the slowest of any brand out there. Hood's over-wide? Probably for weight and motor. If it'll handle 5 40' MT boxcars on the straight and level, I'd say it's a sucess. Can many of us remember Lima/Atlas engines that wouldn't do that? Let's see one run before we pass judgement on it. This ain't the "A" board, is it? :-[

For my posts at least, I thought I made it crystal clear to wait and see. Bachmann's record is spotty on performance.

So, to really drive this home, it's kinda pointless to talk about the model until we can see it and run it.

Still, being that there isn't another choice available, I would seriously consider buying one anyway, maybe rework the window openings, and get rid of that gasket seam around them.

Remember, this is a pre production model we are commenting on. The final model may have a different appearance. I agree that Bachmann has a spotty record. Nonetheless, I have pre-ordered one. Can always return it if unsatisfactory, and use the money on something else.

Well that gives me hope still then...

Imagine if Bachmann hits this one out of the ballpark with the production model?

I think that would make it the smallest critter in N scale, that actually runs under its own power.

Definitely impressive to say the least.

I had loads of fun with the HO Version, though I did tune it a bit.

I had pre-ordered a pair , and as long as they runs better than the coffee grinder trolley I will be glad to have them . Perfect for roundhouse / engine house , short line , scenic line , flat car load , MOW . Just button cute IMO .

I'm not sure if the pre-pro 44t had window glazing. Bachmann applied the windows of the Aceala and HHP8 from the outside.

FWIW, I received an email from Bachmann last week indicating the 44T will be sometime in 2009.

I'm waiting too, because if the mechanism is actually good and the body is, uh, well, 'not', then a replacement resin body with etched handrails wouldn't be beyond me. 

I've studied Johns photos, and I'm convinced they re-sized the HO model rather than working up a new model from scratch.  All the marginally odd things on the HO model are there on the N one, just proportionately magnified, including some completely non-existent prototype features.  I mean, generally, its still really good, but it will depend entirely on the quality of the mechanism.
