Here are some photos of my completed HOn3 Precision Scale D&RGW Long Caboose build.  I’m modeling caboose #0503 as it appeared in 1955.  I’ve added a fair amount of my own touch to this one.  I’ve added the following details: .010”, .012”, .015”, .019” phosphor bronze wire, Athabaska Models etched chain, Sergent Engineering couplers, Grant Line turnbuckles, Northwest Short Line custom semi-scale wheelsets for PSC trucks that I had made for me a while back, and various bits of styrene to get the correct look for this caboose. 

#0503 was the only long caboose with two separate sunshades above each window on the cupola sides.  The sunshade on the PSC kit was one long solid piece molded onto the cupola sides.  I removed the material from the center section between the two windows and carved the tops of the siding boards into the plastic.  I also added sunshades above the caboose body side windows and boarded up the two windows on the caboose body as was done on the prototype.   Ladder extensions are styrene bent to shape.  I painted the caboose with Polly Scale Oxide Red and weathered it with the airbrush, washes and Bragdon weathering powders.

With what could be my last bit of modeling for the year, I wanted to get something (anything) off the workbench so I chose to finish decalling an Atlas PS-2 hopper.

I had been wanting to experiment with using soft pastels with alchohol and got mixed results.


On the first side, the pastels got a little too pasty which just made it hard to do anything.



The other side, however, I was able to get much better texture that I can with chalks or powders.




I also took a huge chunk off the bolster and added some 905's.

A couple pics of my Z scale scratcbuilt clone (sort of) of the Walthers  "Hardwood Furniture", it is a long ways from finished but atleast it looks like a building finally.

I'm working on two projects, first, a ballast car for the Laurel Valley...


And another piece for the Steam Era collection...  a 40' Intermountain car.


Both still need some weathering, and as you can see, I ran out of "W" and "M" decals...

a littlebit late today...

...it was like love on the first sight when I saw the first picture of this beauty on friday. a busy weekend was in order and today I did finish the Indiana Rail Road SD9043MAC #9001 (not freelanced, they actually own six SD9043MAC, ex. CEFX engines)
some BLMA detail parts, some paint and some decals (50 pieces actually) later, this is the result...

HOn30 is a cool scale, I built a Railway Recollections Saddle Tank 0-6-0 a couple years ago.

Any chance you might do a saddle tank version?
