The Modern Electrical Boxes are all-new, injection-molded plastic models that feature etched-metal lift tabs and fine-scale detail.  These models come two per pack.

That opens up a lot of modeling possibilities.  Imagine, now you can realistically model frat parties, Shriners Conventions, Presidential Motorcades, Baltimoreans during baseball season... the possibilities are endless!

Now that you're in the freight car business, how about one or more modern gondolas?   But not your run-of-the-mill cast plastic affair, rather I'd like to see you break the mold (so to speak) and try making them with actual thin metal sides bonded to a rigid frame, so we could more easily make them look like this:

(a fairly mild example, actually) instead of those cheesy effects we've all tried with a soldering iron.  I'm not sure how well this would really work, but I have faith in you!

I agree - modern gons are almost forgotten... 

Would it be possible to do a single 52 and 65 frame and then do a series of sides and ends that attach - and possibly cover a wide range of prototypes?

BTW, the IMRC 40' composite gons are plastic frame and wood panels, so it does seem conceivable to do the metal/plastic car Gary suggests!

As Larry DeYoung points out in the CR Freight Color Guide "gondolas are always having large, heavy, pointy stuff dropped into them by people who don't care much"

I agree - modern gons are almost forgotten... 

I disagree... MDC did that very car, and it's still pretty common out there.  What's missing is a better variety of 50's-70's gons.  You've got the Atlas 40', which is the same as the Bachmann, you've got the ConCor car, which is very hard to find, and you've got the MT car, which is overpriced and underavailable, and forget about waiting for a roadname/number you can use.  The Athearn 65' car is marginal, and until they stop painting them with a roller, there won't be any on my layout.

More "fish belly" gons, please!

You modellers of pre-historic ;D times have at least 6 different gons from MTL, none of which would be on anything except a work train today!

The Athearn MDC gon is extremely difficult to find today - since it was one of the really popular cars Athearn did - despite thick paint.  The Atlas Evans gon mostly ended up on shortlines or in MOW service on Herzog and that's it.  The Hubert/LBF gon is basically gone - there are about a dozen or so on Ebay and that's it.

Let's get more gons for the 50's 60's 70' 80's and 90's!!!
