Yes, the paint isn't what I'd hoped it would be.  I tried finishing it with some Krylon matte finish on the recommendation of a fellow cheapskate, but it went on pretty fat.  I'll be going back to Dull Cote from here on out.  Also, I got the engine used, and I don't know what paint was on it, but it was immune to all of my usual stripping techniques, so there's a coat under there, too...

However, under normal viewing, it is inoffensive.  I'll just make sure I serve lots of beer at the next ops session so no one notices... ;D

I do.  I also bought myself a nice compressor.  I just don't have the patience for all the clean up.
One day I'll force myself to use it.  Once I'm amazed by the results, I'm sure I'll throw all the spray cans away...

Weathering will make that paint look natural , no need to undress that cutie pie , just dirty her up . Maybe one of the weathering wizards here will take it on . I am sure lighting is making the effect much worse than it really is though .

The last shot was also zoomed in and cropped to show the horn.  The reverse angle is even worse.  I'm wondering if I can't buff out the acrylic stuff a little with a paper towel or something.

It still looks good. Just this year I moved into the airbrush age. I gotta play with it on some junk models before I start to use it. But all my future models will be airbrushed.

These high hooded engines contained both a steam generator and dynamic brakes, which was why the hood's hieght was increased.  A very rare bird with only a small number ever built.  Why they did things differently on the RSDs is beyond me.

WM's came from the factory that way.  They did chop their own geeps, but the Alco's came from the catalog.

Guess I will need to order the right horns from Minatures by Eric and send them to you.

All 5 horns point the same direction as used on some Amtrack loco's. and there brass.

N&W also pointed you to these as well.   I know the web picture is pretty  bad but the shot of the one in HO shows just what they look like.

Thanks, Ron, but the Amtrak horn isn't quite right either.  The WM horns were more of a cluster.  But if you have a picture to post of the model, I'd like to see it.
