Okay, time for everyone to get on line to Atlas' parts department...


Five Chime horn.  50c per.  I ordered 8.  It's a two part casting, which snaps together.  You get the top and bottom parts still attached to a sprue.  Order them in pairs.  This allows you to use the sprue as a handhold while snapping the top from one sprue onto the bottom of another.  The parts are tiny, and the maneuver has to be pretty precise, but the fit is tight, no glue required.  The detail is as fine as can be.
These aren't the Nathan's I'm looking for, but dammit, they'll do in a pinch.

Incidentally, these are listed under spare parts for the SD-24/26 in the Atlas parts catalog page.

They should retail these babies.  They're beautiful.  It gives me hope that someone can do the version I need where all the bells point in the same direction.

Can't you just switch the horns around so all the bells are in the same direction? 

As most of us know the WM and the PRR had these high hood Alco's.  One other road also had them.  Anyone know which one?

You can't switch the bells around without micro surgery.  The bottom part has two facing fore and one aft, and the top piece has one fore and one aft.  The result is (now get out your abacus...  I'll wait...) is 3 fore and 2 aft.

They're so delicate I'd be scared to death to cut them up.  They're just as wrong as the old Sunrise parts, but they're so finely done, they'll look much more natural on top of a WM F unit than those old lumpy things.

Lee - I'll give that to you, LV got the ex-PRR hammerhead.  The answer is C&NW.  They had an RSD-5 hammerhead.  Don't think I've ever seen a photo of one.

Looks like you'll need a couple of RS-1 shells to do that short, yet oh so tall hood...  It's not all roundy roundy like a proper RSD...

Lee, I've got to say this, and I say it only because you're a good friend. I'm afraid you've ruined a beautiful kitbash with a bad bunch of paint.

And when you went to repaint it, you could fix the nose stripe too. It's supposed to bend up just before the cab wall and head up and over the top of the nose to the other side.

and then paint it in PRR DLGE, you know, since you want to model a "real" railroad...
